Vintage Alaska Raised Relief Plastic Map 3-D Topographical Kistler Graphics
This auction is for a vintage Kistler Graphics raised topographical map of Alaska. It appears this was a promotional item from a cruise line because it has the route and destinations planned out on it. It is in excellent condition with no damage and still has great color. The size of the map is 19" tall and 22" wide. The only damage is four pinholes in the corners from where there was tacks holding it on the wall. This raised and textured map is topographical and made by Kistler Graphics. Inc. I could not find a date on this map of Alaska anywhere. This map is from the book Our Western Empire or the New West Beyond the Mississippi by L.P. Brockett. A.M. M.D. All known topographical features are detailed but in Alaska. Mu ch was still unexplored. There are almost no cities in Alaska. Sitka being the largest. A"Russian Village" is shown at today’s site of Tyonek. Very few of the mountains are identified. This is 17 years before the Gold Rush. To the east is labeled"British Possessions" In Manitoba. The existing railroads are shown and named- the primary is the Canadian Pacific Railroad going through Selkirk on a northern run and then south to Winnipeg. ... moreManitoba province in the Dominion of Canada was geographically far smaller in 1881 than today only going 100 miles north of the US border. The Collectors Plate is in excellent condition. There are a few very small marks on the back of the plate. I found one extremely small chip on the edge of the plate and you can see it in picture number 6. The chip is less than 1/16" of an inch. There is one 1/16" spot on the bottom front of the plate and you can see this in picture number 5. This plate is made by Vernon Kilns USA. I can not find a MPN or Model number. But there is not another collectors plate on EBAY like this one, at least one that I can find. If you have any questions please ask before you buy.

Existing and proposed highways are marked. Six circular vignettes highlight key moments in Alaskan history from 1741 to 1958, and the map is filled with small pictographs depicting wildlife, historical events and places of interest. A most engaging map. This is an original Klengston Rude map. I have only been able to find similar maps in museums that are in this good of condition. These vintage road maps are in various states of condition Please scroll down to see the underlined IN RED condition of this particular map Please be aware that these Road Maps are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying may be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders and fold lines of the maps may also have tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Original 1907 Map ALASKA Gold Placers Silver Lodes Military Telegraph Lines Coal Original antique color lithographed map of Alaska locating gold placers. Gold and silver lodes, coal mines, and oil wells, printed more than 110 years ago. This map was published less than 10 years after gold was discovered in the Yukon. And it is a wonderful reference to early mining activity in the territory. It also shows the partially completed railroad north of Seward, with a long section parallel to the Susitna River labeled"building. It also shows a railroad from Skagway to White Horse in the Yukon. And it labels the Military Telegraph Line from the Tanana River to St. Michael and across the Norton Sound to Nome, as well as the submarine cable line from Sitka to Valdez. There are dozen of place names. Settlements, and natural features in Alaska and ... morethe Yukon, including Lake Labarge, the setting for Robert Service's famous poem"The Cremation of Sam McGee. The map was engraved by L.L. Poates and is copyrighted © 1907 in the lower margin by Dodd. Mead& Company. It was published in the New Encyclopedic Atlas and Gazetteer, New York.
