Vintage Map Alaska 1957 Page Britannica World Atlas
Vintage map"Alaska" From a 1957 print version of the Encyclopedia Britannica World Atlas. First published in 1942. Map has been carefully removed from atlas, but border is uneven. One side narrower than the other. Map itself is about 9 1/2" by 12 1/2" in size. Page border is about 1" on three sides and trimmed closely on fourth side. See my photos for details. On the reverse side are historical maps of Europe. Light browning and a small rip in paper edge and faint creasing. Coming from my smoke-free and pet-free home. Map will be sealed securely for shipping and sent flat with cardboard in a mailer.

These vintage road maps are in MINT TO CRISP CONDITION UNLESS NOTED All are sold as is I have pictured ONLY the covers in some cases only due to the long process of unfolding folding and photography. If you are interested in seeing the full photographic condition of a particular map I will be more than happy to post additional pics showing the map in its entirity Description Grades listed below CRISP no soil. Wear, or creases. Station stamp is acceptable, as are small wrinkles introduced in printing. Age toning acceptable only if even. MINT As above. But minor edge wear seen. Light pencil marking okay. Age toning may be uneven. NEAR MINT As above. Professional routing marks or a minor annotation okay. Creases show usage. But map has not been misfolded. EXCELLENT As above. But wear is evident. Corners of inner creases may be beginning to separate, ... morebut less than 1 cm. May be rippled from water damage/high humidity but may not be foxed. Any dogear creases are not torn. There may be single tack holes. Map may have been misfolded. VERY GOOD As above. But separations extend less than half a panel span. If tears are not on a crease, each is less than 1 cm. Writing may be significant but does not damage front cover design. Map may be brittle but can be still opened flat without damage. Soil or scuffs can be present, but food or oil is absent. Antique 1899 Alaska Map of the Klondike Gold Fields Helpful Pamphlet for the Gold Miner This is a very interesting miner map and brochure. There is historical value with this item. It is a map and pamphlet that shows where the gold fields were in 1899. There is a list of items of what the miner should take for a years supply. This was produced by D.A. MacDonald. Published by H.S. Crocker of San Francisco.CA. Copyright was 1899. The map is 27 1/4 by 31 1/4 inches. It is in good condition. The map is torn with fold marks. It is very fragile. There are a few water stains. The edges have some wear. The cover is a little dirty. The map and the pamphlet is complete. Nothing seems to be missing. There is NO RESERVE. This map was found in Keller’s Drug Store of Skagway. Alaska among a Case and Draper collection that is dated from the late 1800's ... moreto the early 1900's. The building that Keller used for the Drug Store was originally the Case and Draper Photo Studio. Photographer Case and Draper The work of photographers William H. Case and Herbert Horace Draper offers a glimpse of early twentieth- century Alaska. Fueled by the excitement of the Klondike Gold Rush. They opened a studio in Skagway. In 1898 and later another in Juneau. Their clientele included businesses. Newspapers, local residents, and tourists. The partnership dissolved in 1907, but both men continued to operate their own photography and curio shops as until their deaths. The backbone of Case and Draper’s work was steamship tourism. Which had flourished in Alaska since the 1880s. They sold postcards and prints of Alaskan archetypes by the thousands: Natives and their arts. Rustic towns and industries, fisherman and miners. Some images, reprinted in books and articles for almost a century, have become familiar icons of the North. I have listed and will be listing many other Alaska and B.C. This brochure is a single piece printed on slick glossy paper that folds open to about 40” x 18.5” with a large map printed one side and photos and travel information printed on the other side. The cover panels and beautifully illustrated and titled: PACIFIC COAST TOURS Through the CANADIAN ROCKIES Via CANADIAN PACIFIC The map is in color and covers most of one side and has the Canadian Pacific Railway Company’s logo printed in the margin. This map shows the CPR system and connections from coast to coast. It may be an original map of telegraph or phone lines. Or electrical lines. I found Casewell was an electrician. Perhaps this was his boss signing the map? The date of the map would be somewhere 1898 to very early 1900's. It is in great condition. There are folds as it has been rolled up. The size of the map is 13 1/2 by 16 1/2 inches. It is on a heavy wax paper. This map was found in the attic of Keller’s Drug Store of Skagway. Alaska among a Case and Draper collection that is dated from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. The set was first published in 1772. I found this map in a group of historical papers and documents dated 1771-1820's. This is a black and white map and not color. This map is an authentic antique.
