SUPERB c1900 AMERICAN STERLING SILVER CLASSICAL GRECO-ROMAN MOTIF TRUMPET VASE ... morePresented is a fabulous sterling silver trumpet vase. This piece dates to the late 1800s or very early 1900s. No later than 1910, and is likely of American make. The vase is beautifully hand chased with classical scenes of flower-filled urns and a nude Greco-Roman figure on a column. Above the figure are various swag and scroll designs, and even the columns are ornately decorated with ram's heads and devil's head masks. One side of the vase has no decorations, and is perfect for a monogram or presentation of your choice. The vase is made from thick, sturdy silver, and this is really a very handsome and well constructed piece all around. The vase is in great condition. There are a couple of dings around the underside of the rim. But nothing of any significance. There are no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monograms removals, no breaks, and no repairs. This piece is unhallmarked. But we have tested the vase and guarantee it to be sterling purity silver. The vase stands about 11 inches tall. This piece weighs 543 grams or 19.2 regular ounces. jm Good luck and bid with confidence. For the American Bidder Shipping including insurance is FREE to your USA address. We will ship by UPS Ground. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: Throughout ancient and medieval history. The color purple was traditionally the color of royalty, and was also associated with the planet and the Roman God Jupiter the“Lord of Gods” of the Roman pantheon, also known as Zeus to the ancient Greeks) Consequentially Amethyst has been used since the dawn of recorded history to adorn the wealthy, as well as royalty. Ancient civilizations prized the stone more than many other gems which today enjoy more recognition and value, including sapphire, ruby, diamonds and emerald. For some time in the ancient world, amethyst was valued equally with the diamond, and only royal families were lawfully entitled to own and wear the stone. Amethyst was used extensively in the ancient Mediterranean world for carving intaglio gemstones and seals, particularly by the ancient Greeks and Romans. And in both ancient Greece and Rome rings of amethyst set in bronze were worn as charms against evil. The first century historian and naturalist Pliny wrote that if amethyst were worn round the neck on a cord made from dog's hair, it would afford the wearer protection against snakebite. Celebrating our historical legacy here's a very large. Very clean, 19th century faceted amethyst pear from the Devonian lava beds found along the coast of Angus Country, Scotland. Exported to Russia, the gemstone was hand crafted and faceted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gemstones and jewelry of the Czars of Medie
