Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. We have had this door for a couple of months and were going to do a project with it. We are just too busy to do anything with it so I'm selling it. It came off a very expensive. High end home here in Tulsa. It is SOLID so it's extremely heavy. It measures 96" tall and 36" wide. I would like to say I know what kind of wood it is but I don't. It has a lot of natural knots in it. Also, It will need a few holes filled in but other than that it is in very good condition. The pics that I have up are of the back. It was too heavy for me to move but the front is the exact same it just has the decorative hardware that I was able to take a pic of. Primitive Antique Folk Art Piece Carved Wood Tin Steel Door Bell Instrument? Alrighty– I am slowly working my way to the last of the antique dealer auction items. So I did some power shopping yesterday to replenish the shelves… and did I get lucky! I have some fabulous early primitives to list this week, antique and vintage folk art, early tools, beautiful Victorian items– there’s something for everyone– you won’t be disappointed! Here is a wonderful hand made piece. I'm estimating early 1900s. But it truly could be older. The dealer that I bought it from purchased it at an estate sale, and he couldn't get any information on it either. WhatDAheck is it? It has a small nail sized hole under the raised box(see photo 9) and a larger hole surrounded by carved circles under the steel"ringers" for lack of a better word. In photo ... more14, you can see that there's two small holes on one of the short ends. I don't know if it mounted on a wall, or on some larger piece, or if there was another piece once attached to it(it's the edge holes throwing me off) what do you think? It has a back that is solid wood that has been decoratively carved- very rustic and primitive, and the lines and circles, I think were painted darker than the finish of the wood- unless that's just aged patina, it's hard to tell. Then, you have a tin box with a wood bottom mounted on the wood backing. It has a steel bar that wraps over the tin box and over the 6 steel"fingers. There is copper wire wrapped round the steel bar in between the"fingers" and you can see it threads through holes in the back- like sewn on. The patina there at the back by those holes is blackblackblack. One of the steel"fingers" is loose in its place- its on the left side, and I'm showing how I can move it back and fourth in photos 16& 17. I could pull it out if I wanted to, I think, so it probably needs to be tacked down a little just to secure it. This is the only one that has a flat/dull ring to it when you flic

It's made of solid pine and features 4 recessed panels with no molding(shaker style) When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Height: The height of the door was unevenly cut by 1/4" Most likely to compensate for a settling foundation or a warped floor. Up for auction is a very TALL. Very HEAVY 9'+ DOOR w square glass toward the top. They were found at an estate auction so I don't know any history or specific age. I do have 5 available BUT YOU ARE BIDDING ON ONLY ONE DOOR with the option to purchase the remaining when you PICK UP. I believe(not sure) they were originally all connected for like large garage/divider type doors. There is 3 cool old ornate hinges on each door and the one shown has the old slide-bolt hardware-mechanism on the bottom, I think that served like a latch-lock? I would describe them as being in fair used vintage condition. They are solid but very dinged. Scratched, rough etc. They were laying in the grass for the auction and had been stored in a shed for who knows how long. They have the same finish on both sides. Although one side, probably one laying in grass ... moreshows whitish, almost like leave marks which I think has lightened the finish. see photos) They're overall nice-unusual old pieces but I always try to be more critical in my descriptions and will not call something mint if it's not!
