Antique Pair of Chunky Corbels- Chippy Paint- Architectural Salvage Up for auction are 2 old chunky corbels. Salvaged from the Dubuque, Iowa area. I believe they are old growth pine; could be another type of wood as each weighs in at 2.75 lbs. Interesting shape and their weight makes them ideal as bookends or table-top architectural sculpture. Paint finish is chippy and'grungy' from age; there appears to be but two layers of paint, making removal an easy job. Please expect the usual wear from outdoor exposure. Nail holes on these pieces are found on the unfinished, unexposed sides; the occasional nail or hole is possible on other areas, but for the most part these pieces are'clean. Talk about an unusual Charleston estate auction find. here is an incredible heavy carved polychrome solid wood Chinese door or heavy gate with a cross beam and side beam frame as well as the heavy raised panel doors with all their original iron fittings. This is an old Chinese door and is extremely heavy as well as somewhat primitive on the unfinished sides of the beams. The polychrome paint is quite worn but is still quite evident and adds so much character to an already gorgeous detailed yet functional heavy door. I have included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design. Quality, condition and overall beauty of this delightful antique door. Unfotunately I do not know any additional provenance on the door or have any definitive explanation as to how it arrived in our fair city, though with it being a port ... morecity and with the sheer size and weight, my guess is whenever it came to the US, it was most assuredly by boat long ago. The standing door frame itself is 78 inches tall by 68 inches wide at it's widest points. At beams which extend and is constructed of huge beams 4 1/2 inches wide.The inside doorway entrance(inside the standing frame) is 63 1/2 inches tall and 39 1/4 inches wide, with a bottom crossbeam one would have to step over to enter. In addition there is a large crossbeam I believe goes overhead, hooking into the corbels, 68 inches long by 8 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches thick. There are also two side beams each 73 1/4 inches long by 6 1/2 inches wide by 3 inches thick and the two corbels, carved from blocks roughly 21 1/2 inches by 12 inches by 8 inches. The two raised panels doors, which shut from behind the door frame, are 74 1/2 inches tall and very heavy, ready for locking out the enemy. Antique Vintage Victorian Wood Architectural Corbels Lot of 7 Matching salvage
This auction is for a lot of seven(7) matching antique vintage victorian wooden architectural corbels. They were original pieces removed from our 1896 Victorian home as part of a remodeling project. Each one measures approximately 7.5" deep x 3.5" wide x 16.5" tall. They were painted a long time ago but the paint could be stripped or painted over. A couple of them are still attached to small portions of the underside of the small roof area where they were mounted above the bay window(see photos) 2 of the 7 were broken during removal. But the breaks are clean and you'd never be able to tell the difference between them and the other 5 when re-installed. They could easily just be wood-glued and the crack would disappear. I tried to show these breaks in the photos, with examples of each one apart and then held together. They are wood and are made from 2 pieces of 3/4" thick boards over a thicker center piece to make up the total thickness of 3 1/2" 1 has a piece of wood missing from the one side as shown. The top shelf protrudes out eighteen inches. The research I have done indicates these probably came from a church because of the singng cherubs ... morewith their mouths open. Beautiful condition with a few age cracke in the wood. No breaks or chips that I can see. Excellent repurpose potential, kitchen island, fireplace mantel, entry way door embellishment etc. I have looked and looked on the internet and have not found a matching set anywhere close to these beauties. Purchased from a long time interior decorators estate warehouse sale in Oklahoma City. These huge corbels weigh about fifty pounds each. Low starting bid is for both of them. It would be a shame to split these two pieces up after all of these years. Given the workmanship and size of these corbels I was told that they are probably of Italian origin. Looks like someone mounted some modern mounting hardware on the back in preparation to mount that looks not near heavy enough but never mounted. These can easily be removed. Low starting bid. One of the corbels has a weaker place were the wood was seamed- but it doesn't come off. Antique Ornate Cast Iron Corbels Victorian Curved Angle Hanging Brackets
Here are two awesome architectural ornamental wall corbel or mounts. They are made of cast iron and have decades of paint around them! They are both a little different from each other. One is 12 inches long and 11 inches tall. The other is 10 1/2 inches tall and 11 1/2 inches long. The larger one has one mounting hole and the smaller one has two. The larger one also has more ornate fill in the center. The bottoms are ribbed and curved! These look spectacular! Can be tuned upside down and used to ham things on as well. Excellent to use a decoration or to use as as an ornamental bracket. These cake directly from an old farm house. Would need to be sanded down to take the many coats of paint of of them. We are selling a pair of shabby corbels. These would make great decorative pieces as they have wonderful texture and form. The white paint is aged and chipping to reveal green paint and beautiful wood grain underneath. They are large enough to add architectural interest to a room or display. But are not obtrusive. 18 individual matching corbels- roof to soffit brackets- from the turn of the century. These form a 90 degree angle. These are in very good condition. They do have a few coats of paint on them. These are solid pine and still dusty- they need a good cleaning with a hose. All but one have an additional piece of 3/4" wood across the short side- that's why the one on the left end is shorter in two of the pictures- this extra piece can be removed.
