This is an older Dogon people door. Mali, African that was acquired by an artist collector sometime between the mid 1950's and early 1990's. It clearly shows natural aging as suggested by the fact that the wood panels making up the door have separated a bit due to the natural shrinking of wood along the grain. This is a neat old barn door that could be reused on a cupboard or any project. It is 54" tall by 21 1/2" wide by 1" deep. The paint is flaking off and looks like it would be easy to strip the rest of it off. The hinges are 3 1/4" long by 1 1/2" wide. This doesn't include the part sticking up- just the part attached to the wood. I only have that part- I do not have the part that was attached to the wall. It also looks like it could be cleaned up nicely to show off the design. The latch is missing the slider piece. There is a glass door cover missing on one side and there is a nice size chip on the front of the box as well as another small chip in the back. The existing glass door is original with bubbles and waves. The glass is held in the frame with putty and some of the putty has cracked but the glass is still secured in place. I have no idea what this box was used for. And I do not know how old it really is but it looks very old. All of the hinges are made of brass and the locking mechanism is steel. I do not know if the lock works and there is no key included. Six of the center horizontal slats slide in and out of position and four of them have numbers on them. Very old. Hard-to-find ENTERPRISE MFG Co cast iron Sad Iron with original, detachable wood handle. Size 3. Measures approx 6.75" long by 3.75" wide by 5" tall(with handle) and weighs just a smidge under 6 pounds. Marked ENTERPRISE MFG CO. PHILA PA. and No 50. Detachable wood handle is marked with a“C” on top of the cast iron attachment plate and with a“B” underneath. All original. No cleaning. Repairs or restoration. Fabulous old patina with just enough corrosion to look its age. The wood handle, in particular, is awesome. Release latch is tight and works great. This listing is for a wooden bread box with punched tin door. It is made of real wood.not mdf or particle board. The pieces are screwed together. The piece measures approx. 17"long x 9.5 wide x 9.5 deep. It has a hinged door. There are some chips and scratches to the wood that can easily be repaired. Personally I think it gives it character. ANTIQUE JAPANESE 90 YEAR OLD 5 DRAWER 2 DOOR DOCUMENT CHEST KIRI WOOD TANSU
Known as a chobadansu. This tansu chest was made and used over 90 years ago in the late Taisho period(c. 1924) It has five drawers of various sizes as well as two sliding doors behind which is a shelf(see picture 5) The chobadansu, or document chest with locking drawers, was used to store an individual's or shop's accounts, documents, and valuables. This chest has three operable locks with key(two on drawers and one on the sliding doors see pictures 9. 10, and 11) This tansu chest was skilfully made of solid kiri(paulownia) wood and hardened hinoki wood peg construction(see last picture) All the hardware is made of copper with handles in the classic warabite(fern hand) shape. Kiri(Paulownia) wood was prized by the Japanese for the making of tansu chests. It is one of the strongest woods in relation to its light weight. The chest has a great configuration of five various sized drawers. And two sliding doors. The key seen in pictures 9& 11) operates the two drawer locks as well as the sliding door. The two sliding doors can be removed to reveal a large open area with an off-set shelf with persimmon wood trim(see picture 5) They are easily removable for open display. This chest has a 90+ year old warm aged patina and. With the exception of some very minor nicks or dings(see enlarged pictures) remains in very fine condition and should serve one well for another century of use. It measures 24" wide by 21 high by 13" deep(60.5 x 54 x 33 cm) A great piece of Japanese history and a very interesting and functional piece of furniture. You'll love it.
