Antique Robbins Weathervane Maryville Mo. Lightning Rod Horse Stallion Folk Art
Up For Auction! This is a rare Robbins Weathervane/ Lightning Rod with a Horse figurine. The weather vane measures approximately 25" tall. It has a figure of a horse on the top and is made of a sand like material or plaster. It is very light weight figure. But does appear to made of something other than plastic. Possibly bakelite, paper mache or sandstone. The horse has three of the feet broken off. One of them comes with the vane. It appears that someone has tried to repair it with some super glue. The exterior of the horse feels gritty like sand and it looks like it was made in a mold. The directional arrow and N. W, S& E(North, South, East& West) arms are made of a light weight aluminum. There is a plastic cylinder that is in the middle of the weather vane. It has two small hairline cracks at the bottom where the screw attach ... morethe plastic part to the main rod. There are very small and unnoticeable. The main rod has threads at the bottom to screw into something or attach it to something using a nut. The diameter of the main rod and threads is approximately 1/2" in diameter. The tail of the direction arrow has a maker's name. It was made by Robbins. Maryville Missouri This was purchased at an estate sale in North Dakota and undoubtedly came of the family's barn or shed. I have no doubt it would make a great ornament. This weathervane is fairly complete and in nice condition outside of the feet being broken. This is a great vintage piece of folk art. Orig Miller Quality Lightning Rod Weathervane Bayonet Tip, Glass Ball & Arrow BO
All Original signed Miller Quality on the brass bayonet tip. I have listed this item as Buy it Now or Best Offer. A magnet does not stick to the bayonet tip or the ring that goes around the glass ball. I am not sure if it is silver. Brass or copper. The bayonet tip measures from top to bottom 10" and the tip of the three sided bayonet has a very sharp tip on the end and has a green color to it. The steel arrow measures 15" from the tip of the arrow to the end, the end of the arrow is missing. The steel arrow is approximately 1/4" thick steel. The glass ball measures approximately 6" tall and is approximately 4 1/4" across. The ball has a non metal ring that goes with it. The lighting rod was taken off of an old 1800's barn years ago that was being demolished and was stored away in my collection. I am selling all ... morethe pieces together and not breaking them up. You get what you see in the pictures, the bayonet piece, the ball ring, the smoky glass ball, and the steel arrow. I have taken twelve pictures so you can see all the features of this unique lighting rod. There are no cracks in the glass ball. Where the ball would sit on the lighting rod rings it does have rough edges, but the glass on the ball itself is not cracked or chipped, it does need cleaned, I will leave that up to the professional. Copper Weathervane From "Bel Air" Historic Home George Washington's Biographer
The home known as"Bel Air" in Woodbridge. Virginia, just south of Washington D.C. was constructed in 1740 by Major Charles Ewell. It was later purchased by Parson Weems, the first biographer of George Washington, who published his biography"The Life Of Washington" in 1800, which included the famous"George Washington Can Not Tell A Lie, Cherry Tree Story. George and Martha Washington stayed in this home on several occasions when it was owned by Major Ewell, before Weems purchased it! Thomas Jefferson also was a guest at this home several times. This home is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. That's the background of this home, true American history! This brings us to the Weathervane that sat atop this house. This Weathervane was constructed at some point ... morein the 1800's and was constructed by joining together many pieces of hand-hammered Copper. Not the two-piece technique used later in that century. There are a couple of old Buckshot holes in the Eagle, including the beak, with the buckshot still rolling around inside the Eagle! This Weathervane has tremendous patina and still stands proudly. The original angled, roof mount with original hardware is included. It stands 59" tall and is 25" from wingtip to wingtip. You can also see the very nice shamrock patterns in the directionals. This is truly a one of a kind offering of a historic artifact of our country. This house was auctioned off in 2013 along with several contents. The documentation of this house and these statements is easily confirmed. This rare weathervane circa late 1800's came from an estate in northern California. This is an original Victorian era piece! The hollow copper horse measures an impressive 30” from nose to tail and 14” from head to hoof. The horse body rotates on an axis above the 18” wind indicator letters. Two hollow copper balls; 5” and 3 ½” sit atop the indicator. Overall the weathervane is in great vintage condition. With beautiful oxidation and patina. | | LARGE 33" ANTIQUE/VINTAGE FOLK ART COPPER WEATHERVANE HORSE RACE SULKY W/JOCKEY, This was an attic find at a local estate sale so I can't say much about it's age or origin. Looking around ebay I'd say it's likely not an antique but it is very well built and hand-crafted from formed copper soldered together with brass tubing for the structural support elements. It has been stored indoors so it's starting to get a nice patina but has not yet developed full verdigris. All soldered joints are solid. You'll notice that one of the wheels is bent in slightly and the front leg of the horse is slightly tweaked. Both could be easily bent back to shape if you so desire. Old Victorian Era Iron & Brass Lightning Rod Weathervane Farm Hardware
Here we have an old lightning rod. This was recently removed off a Southern Ky. barn. Stand is a noninsulated style. It is 21" tall and has all it's feet and the brass rod clips aren't broken. Rod is a 32" iron spiral style rod. The female fitting is stamped Improved Miller Quality. Rod has the 2- piece brass cable connector and a wide blade 9" bayonet. Rod and stand has some silver roof paint and the tip has nice bright green patina. Very nice old rod.
