Penn Antique Restoration. Pair of Vintage Brass-plated Steel"Griffin" Door Hinges 3 1/2"x3 1/2" Heavy-duty. Vintage door hinges made by, Griffin, during the second half of the previous century. Each hinge is made of solid, heavy, thick steel. Originally, both hinges were brass plated, however, much of the plating has worn off over the years leaving them with a nice, distressed finish. Both hinges have a five-knuckle design with ball-tip finials on each end. At the point of salvage. The pins wouldn't budge, and the hinges were dirty and rusty. Much time was spent removing the pins, and thoroughly cleaning the hinges in attempt them to bring them back to their original splendor. The hinges are in great shape. I recently acquired several large boxes of vintage hardware from a Simmons Hardware in McComb Ohio. Alot of these items are in marked boxes and have hand writing on them from the old school fountain pens or even quill pens.not real sure. These items were never used and some of them have patent dates from the 1800's. Many pieces are not marked on the item itself at all. Even though these items are N.O.S. some of thes still have patina and some even have some rust from over 100 years of humidity etc. There is so much stuff I do not have the time to clean all of it so a lot of the items will be as found. These hinges came out of a house I lived in that was built in the early 1900s. Very solid and heavy. These hinges were used on the servant's saloon door to the kitchen. And swung both directions. Not sure, but I think they might be called Saloon Hinges. There was some work done to them, looks like a repair on the corner of one of the hinges. See picture number 8. Does not affect operation. This auction is for an old wood box. I do not know what this box was used for but it was made to be about as sturdy as you can make one out of wood. It is dovetailed and has brass handles. Hinges, and latch. This box could hold far more weight than could ever be put in it so I really do not know why it was made so well. A very cool box. I believe it is made of oak wood. Lot of 10 Rustic Primitive Vintage Hinges Barn Hinge Latch Loop Barn Find Yeh! My favorite flea market opened for the season. And I am still listing items from my antique store trip as well as the farm auction sale- there’s loooots of new items this week, and something for everyone! Here's my last farm auction barn hardware lot to list this morning. And then I have to zip out and do some treasure hunting for you! It's another lot of 10- this time hinges- all made of steel except the larger antique red one that I do believe is iron- see photos 8-9. That one has very shabby chippy and worn barn red paint with what looks like was white underneath that. It measures 9 1/2" long when laying flat and 2 3/4" widest at the hinge. It weighs just under 1 lb and the hinge moves freely and easily. Next, I have 4 smaller steel hinges ... morethat you see in photos 2-4. They measure 3 3/4" long when laying flat on the table by 2 7/8" wide at the hinge and each weighs about 2 ounces. They all move with a little force applied(not alot, though- they move) Next, I have the three smallest that you see in photos 5-7. They measure 4" long by 1 1/6" when laying flat on the table and weigh about an ounce each. The hinges move very freely and easily. Next, you see what looks like a latch loop to me in photos 11& 12. At first I thought it goes to my last hinge(like a hook and eye) but that doesn't work as this is a closed loop, and that's a hinge that goes back and forth like a door hinge, not up and down like a latch hook. This one has a mounting back that is"rounded' triangular in shape and it measures 1 1/4" wide by 2" tall and the loop is 1 1/4" long by 1/4" deep. It has a black finish and three mounting holes. Last is another favorite in photos 12-14. It's a hinge with a very Colonial style and a dark black finish with almost a pounded look to it. It measures 7 3/8" and 1 3/4" wide at the hinge end.
