The original finish I would say is a pretty good match to Minwax Early American Stain which is available in stores everywhere if you are trying to match things. There was a round lock of sorts that is not there and a narrow strip on one door in front to give a finished look to the doors when they were closed. Which is not difficult to replace. There's a few nicks on the edges of the backs of the doors that really do not show from the front of the doors. Vintage Japanese Mizuya Kitchen Tansu Sliding Doors # 1 of 2 sets
This is one of two sets of sliding doors originally made for a Japanese kitchen tansu(mizuya) from the early 1900's. They are made of cypress and are jointed together at the corners. With a soft tap of a hammer they can be separated. Then a thin board or glasss could be inserted into the groove around the inside edges. We tried to show these edges in the photos# 6- 9. One of the inside edges is broken but it could be fixed with glue before or after the insert is installed.This broken section can be seen in photo# 5. Left side door look at the upright on the right side and the crack is visible. The bottom of the runner has an ebony inlay. This is for its beauty and the utilitarian purpose of making the wood stronger so the bottom runner doesn't wear down through sliding back and forth. Vintage Japanese Kiri Tansu Doors & Hardware
These are a pair of doors made for an early 1900's Japanese tansu. They are all kiri wood with copper latches/ handles that cover a key hole. We don't have the key. The right side door has the key hole the left side has a fake key hole. These don't need to be locked to stay closed. There is a spring latch on the left side door that fits into a hole on the right side door. This can be seen in photos 7. 8 11& 12. Also the left side door has a bottom and top lock that locks it into the tansu. This can be seen in photos 9, 10& 12 in the upper corners. This latch slides up and down into a hole in the tansu itself. The left door is closed first then the upper and lower latches are locked into place, locking that door in place.Then the right side door would be closed and the center spring latch would keep it shut until it is ... morepulled open. The kiri wood is in pretty good shape. Considering it's about 90 years old. There are some spaces in the center panels from when the wood shrank over the years. There is also some expected wear on the edges and on the wood itself. Look closely at the photos please. The corners latches move up and down and the center spring latch still has spring in its spring. Antique 19th Century Valuables Chest From the estate of a Vermont antique collector. This is a lovely little miniature chest. The wood is Elm and it has a dark finish. There are two doors on the front that have a lock- I do not have the key. Inside are three drawers with nice brass colored drawer pulls that fold flat into the drawer. The drawers have tiny hand cut dovetails front and back. Beveled edge on the top and the chest sits on a beveled edge base. Original finish. There is some light wear to the finish from years of use, but it is still in very nice antique condition. Ready to display. Miniature Chest measures 9.5" wide and 13" tall. These are from a vintage lamp and have pin holes 4 total were crystal were located. They are solid brass and are approximately 3 3/8" with a 7/16" hole in the metal. The daisy sets of off the base about 3/16" It does not set flush flat. These would clean and shine up as much as you want them too. These are very cool and would make great hardware for doors.
