Interesting antique brass door knob set. Large scroll form back plates with covered keyholes. Knobs are subtlety different as one(straight ribs) measures 2-1/4" in diameter. The other(pinwheel ribs) measures 2-1/2" Back plates measure 13-3/8" long, 3" wide. One plate has only a covered keyhole, the other has both covered& exposed keyhole with ribbed cover. Note offset knob preps as these look to have been prepped to line up exposed key hole on one with covered keyhole on other. Numerous drilling for knob plates. Knob plates measure 1-15/16" and 1-7/8" in diameter. The smaller of the 2 is likely a replacement as it doesn't appear to cover extra holes& knob doesn't sit well in recess. Also covered with paint. Vintage Antique Cast Iron Corbin Mortise Door Lock With Glass Knobs hardware
These items came from a very old house and would be great for collecting or restorations. The front plate looks brass but a magnet does stick to it. The front plate measures 6 3/4” long by 7/8” wide. It is very clean inside and all the parts appear to be there. The box measures 3 1/4” wide by 5” tall. The distance from the middle of knob hole to the middle of the key hole is 2 3/8” The latch works and I think the bolt would work too but I DO NOT have a key that fits. The glass knobs measure 2 1/8” wide by 1 ½” tall and have no problems. I have cleaned these up as best I can as they were covered with paint and rust. So some paint and rust spots may remain. 1886 Russell & Erwin Door Knobs & Lock with American Eagle United States Seal
Here is a wonderful pair of door knobs still attached to their lock. Both have the United States or American Seal with the Eagle. They are marked as having been made by Russell& Erwin and have two patent dates. One from October 12. 1886 and the other February 1896. I don't know what building they came out of and haven't been able to find anything about them other than Russell& Erwin made locks in the mid 1800s. As I tried to show these brass knobs have verdigris and one has a dent. I haven't tried to clean these up in any way and will let the new owner do that if they wish. I have no key. Each set includes 2 steel knobs, 2 stamped steel escutcheons, 1 steel mortise lock with 1 working key, 1 steel strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 set screws to connect the knobs. Originally. All parts were brass plated, however, some of the brass wore off over the years leaving the parts with a nice, distressed finish. The amount of brass varies from part ... moreto part(see photos to compare) Although the plating looks worn. The parts have no scrapes, scratches, or any other signs of wear. I'm guessing that these sets are NOS(New Old Stock) meaning that they were made long ago, but were never installed and used. Manufacturers will usually apply a lacquer or some other finish to preserve the plating and to ensure that the parts don't rust. This finish must have worn off due to potential customers touching the parts or shuffling them around, for years leaving the plating exposed to moisture. Since the parts weren't installed and used. They are in excellent condition! There are no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, gouges, or deep scratches. Each lock was opened. Inspected, and we sprayed grease on and around all parts to facilitate their movement. The following auction is for a lot of vintage doorknobs.Plates and hardware. They are used and show some wear. There is rust on the hardware and on the back of the knobs. I am not sure if the plates all match the knobs etc. Its a mixed lot of items I have put together. They are dirty,and faded in some cases. I will describe each a bit better below. 2 White knobs through door plate-The hardware on the back of the knobs is rusty as well as the plate. The one door knob has paint on it. Measures about 5.75 inches from knob to knob. The plate measures about 3.25 by 4.25 inches. 2 Door Plate Locks-There are no keys for them. The lock is pushed out on the one.
