antique walnut newel post top turned bowl c. 1870s
Offering this great early newel post cap in the unusual form of an open bowl or urn. Made of walnut with some applied veneer on the outside. This piece dates to the 1860s or 1870s. It is nicely milled with a double swell to the bowl. The cap stands 5 inches high and is 6 inches in diameter at the widest point. It has been used at some point, as it has 3 nail holes on the base-see photo. This piece is in really good condition; there is a crack in the veneer on the band between the two swells on the body of the bowl-see photo for detail. Otherwise. There are no stains, warping, chips or other damage. Description This is a great piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of oak and is currently painted. It has its original finial. The top has carved flowers on three sides. The shaft has a unique barley twist design. The base is notched for the first two steps. The first step is 8 inches tall. This post is two pieces joined by dowels. They need to be reset and glued. It measures 54.75 inches tall by 7 inches square at the base. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good scrubbing but will clean up nicely. There are some small chips and nail and screw holes. A nice pair of antique Victorian era newel Post Finials. The Finials are made of wood. The beehive design is oak and the other is Mahogany. The Oak finial measures 5 1/2" high x 4 5/8" in diameter across the flat bottom. The Mahogany Finial is 5" high x 4 1/2" across the bottom excluding the mounting peg. Both are in good overall condition and retain the original finish. The only thing to note is normal wear including small nicks on the Beehive design and a dent in the other finial, see photos. Vintage Spanish revival newel post light. From the iron staircase of the home.
A few months ago I listed a bunch of light fixtures from a GREAT Spanish Revival home up the street from me. The new owners are remodeling. And did not want the fixtures. When I got the first batch, they had not replaced the newel post light yet, but they just brought it to me. this is from a home built in the late 1920's. All the fixtures were hand made by a local black smith(NOW FAMOUS FOR HIS LIGHT FIXTURES HERE! I sold everything except 1 pair of sconces(I still have them if interested) this was on the front staircase that was wrought iron(also made by him) I have not rewired this. This just sets on a"pipe" and had 2 screws that held it on(missing) This is between 14" and 15" tall.

Antique Architectural Newel Post Base Banister Base Tiger Oak Great Pedestal Too A 26 years long time antique dealer in this area is closing her doors for good. And I actually spent two days picking this weekend through her stuff. She specialized in very old primitives, but I was able to grab a little bit for everyone– I have some fabulous advertising, industrial, retro, deco, lots of store displays and apothecary too– you don’t want to miss this week! WOW. Do I love this one! It's a beautiful antique architectural piece for you. A post bottom of base of some sorts- it's 12 1/2 lbs heavy and in excellent solid and sturdy structural condition- totally strong. Wouldn't it make a wonderful pedestal for your pretty? It's hollow on the inside, as you can see in my photos, with a solid wood base that has a single small hole at the ... morebottom, and numbers that are impressed in the wood- there's 18243, and then there's 396. I do not know the maker. You can also see wood pegs on the underside too- see photo 21- they are lighter in color and round. It measures 9 7/8" square at the base, 7 1/2" square at the body and 8 7/8' square at the top. The opening at the top is 4 1/4" square. It's 12 1/2" tall. I'm showing it next to my footstool in photo 2 for a size reference. The piece is covered with a tiger oak veneer, and you can see that there's one row of a carved look veneer just above the base- see photo 16. I do not know what the body wood is, but it's hard wood, and it even could be oak- see my top and bottom photos and what you think, as I am not sure. The patina is dark and shows a fair amount of wear to the finish- more aligatored crackles from age than anything. There's one corner that has a chip to the veneer- I'm showing it from one side in photo 19 and from the other side in photo 20. The photo 19 side chip is about 1" by 1" while the two chips on the other side are about 1/4" and 1/8" There's some other small spots and corn

Up for Auction. Is the Best Empire or American Classical period Newel post to hit Ebay. I have collected highly decorative and fancy newel posts for 30 years and with a need to down size for a move. I am listing my best newel post ever found. I would date this beauty to C.1830 as their is a similar highly carved example in the. Livingston- Backus House in the Genesee Country Village in Mumford N.Y. The newel column still retains its initial hand rail run on the top of the post. The wood appears to be a magnificent colored mahogany and the column has incredibly executed carving of Acanthus& Palm leaf motifs. The post measures 37 inches from the base to the bottom- just under the hand rail and 41 inches to the top side of the hand rail. The bottom mounting block is 8-1/2 inch tall and 6-1/2 inches on it's width. Their is a small missing ... morepiece of the carved detail. Which we will show closely in our photographs. This missing piece of detail may be deliberate in order to clear the adjacent stair step. see photo#8& 11) Other wise-the carvings are superb and in very good shape. Also. This turned newel features an understated silhouette and is crowned with gorgeous inset trefoil panels on three sides. Green Glass Fruit Basket Moreau Figural Newel Post Art Deco Spelter Lamp Shade
Hello- I used a lamp that I have to show you the shade. The ceramic lamp is not included. This is a wonderful Glass Fruit Basket Lamp Shade. The glass lamp shade is approx. 13 3/4" high alone. And is about 8" at the widest. It looks as if someone made a repair to the bottom of the lamp glass, by using something like paper mach'e to possibly keep the glass intact at the bottom. It works and looks pretty natural except that the bottom is not perfectly round as you can see, and I have pictured. The bottom of the shade is hard to notice as it's usually not at eye level, and the shape of the shade hides the bottom. This is just the glass only. There is a bit of paint smear around the repair on the glass that could probably be scraped off. It is 4" across the bottom. It's a gorgeous piece of glass, with no maker marks ... moreso I don't know who designed it. On Feb-04-14 at 18:25:52 PST. BRASS NEWEL POST ELECTRIC LAMP WITH SLAG GLASS SHADE
It is brass with a great patina. The complete height as shown is 21 1/2" The height of the fixture without the shade is 15 1/2" The diameter of the base is 4" The shade has a 3 1/4" fitter. It has 5 panels of pink textured glass. There is no damage to the glass that I can see or feel. The shade is 6 1/2" deep. I have shown the lamp lit and unlit. Nice either way. These are heavy and solid. Approximately4¾" at base x 5" high. Both work. They are NOT BRASS.
