You are buying an 15 3/8" Lightning rod point rustic tarnished verdigris green old nickel on brass This lightning rod point is in good condition and nicely aged from 100 plus years in the weather. The point has weathered nicely over the years and what is left is a great verdigris green patina that will display well. There was some hunks of tar on the base of the point. The nickel was intact under it when I soaked it with acetone. This point was made from solid brass. Or bronze. Yellow Cased Plain Round Lightning Rod Ball
YELLOW CASED PLAIN ROUND LIGHTNING ROD BALL This is the very last ball left from our collection. It is a very bright yellow cased ball(two layers of glass. The inside is clear, the outer is yellow. One of the collars has typical chipping around the circumference. The other collar has.5" chip with the apex of the chip to the surface of the ball where it migrates about 1/8" onto the surface of the ball. This is a large collar plain round mold and I do have the appropriate size end caps to cover the collars. The chipping will not show since all will be covered with the caps. It will make a great addition to any collection. I also want to point out that on one side of the ball there seems to be bubbles that formed in the clear inside layer of the ball. This is in two separate areas. I can feel the inside surface and it seems that the ... moremolten glass didn't fill the mold completely. The result is that the glass is"thinner" at that point and if you hold the ball so that light shines through it. There is definitely an imperfection. It is very hard to sustain imperfections on the inside of ball that didn't happen at manufacture. In the photo below, you will see a light"oval" area to the right of the fleshy part of my thumb. It is less than a.5" in length. Directly below the"oval" bubble is a scratch on the surface of the ball which is about 1/8" in diameter. It looks like a"b-b or rock ping" The definitely scratched the glass, but, fortunately, there was no cracking involved. About.5" to the right of the"ping" is another double bubble on the inside layer of glass, giving two shade of lightness to the glass. It measures about.75" in diameter. Below is a photo of the scratch reflected in the daylight of the room where the photo was taken. ANTIQUE ORNATE IRON ARROW Measures 22.75" long. There are no breaks. Cracks, or repairs to this fancy old arrow. An eBay search shows me it looks just like a Kretzer but I don't see the name where it usually is. See my last photo. Don't know if they were ever unmarked or if it could wear down that much? Plain Round Lightning Rod Ball 4-Star Weathervane. This is an all metal arrow use on systems where a plain round ball would be mounted with end caps in the middle of the circular center of the arrow. There is a whole in the bottom and top of the circular center which takes the verticle rod of the system. Four stars are attached to the circular center. The vane is in excellent shape and appears to be all original. Originally. It appears that the stems of the stars were threaded rods that screwed in to the circular center. However, time and weather has corroded the rods and they are permanently fixed in place. I would not want to remove them for fear of breaking off the ends of the short star rods. The vane from arrow tip to tail tip measures 22" in length. Star tip to star tip in height is 9" The opening in the center is 5.25 in ... morediameter. Now this is a very interesting glass lightning rod topper in bright. Transparent orange that has spent the last 25 years or so inside as part of a local store display. This finial. Or pendant, or topper is an unusual bright orange color, sort of a mix between orange and amber. The finish appears to be applied to the glass, not mixed into it, but it is in good condition and judging by the thickness and imperfections in the glass itself, I am pretty sure this is a fairly old piece. This good looking old architectural piece is another finial or cupola topper. It is made of tin that was soldiered together and then attached to the peak of some type of finial. Likely this was once part of the peak on the tower of some old Victorian home or fastened to an old barn cupola. The tin is old and I have the feeling it is getting too brittle to last much longer outside in the elements. But could serve admirably in some indoor display. Listed are 2 copper lightning rod ground clamps. One is the type that pushed into the end of the copper lightning rod- it is 2" long and has a opening about 3/8" for the wore. The other is a bayonette style that is 2 piece- the piece that goes into the end of the rod is 3/4" in diamter and is threaded so the piece that attaches to the ground wire screws into this piece. Up for bids is this antique Copper Barn Lightning Rod with the original stand and Milk Glass Lightning Rod Ball. Stamping on the tip says" D x S Des Moines" This great looking old rod was salvaged from an old turn of the century era barn that was being taken down here in southeast minnesota. It has beautiful. Old, weather tarnished copper and iron patinas and would make an eye catching piece in any collection. The old copper rod is complete with a very sharp point on the top and the ground wire clip on the bottom. It is just under 54" tall. The old Milk-Glass Ball is free of any cracks but does have the normal worn edges on the ends from weathering and wearing against the stand and rod that’s found on all old glass lightning rod balls. Vintage Rare Tall (65") Copper Lightning Rod w/ Stand
Vintage Rare tall lightning rod measuring approximately 65" Very hard to find rods of this height) Copper base. The tip seems more silver in color as the base has some of the green patina that copper gets from oxidation so I am not sure what this is made of. There is a tri-pod type stand with 2 rings where the base of the rod slips through(probably steel which has rusted) with holes in each end of the tri-pod for screwing into the top of the barn/house. The very tip of the arrow tip is very slightly bent and the rod itself seems to have a slight bend to it as well.
