I have a nice old ornate thumb latch mortise lock for your consideration. Ornate floral geometric patterning consistent with its 145 year old age. Nice large chunky brass slide bolt. Lock face measures 4 9/16 x 1 1/8 x 1/8 inch thick. Depth of mortise cut from face plate to end of box(including 1/8 thick face plate) is 2 5/8. deep. Height for cut is 2 13/16 x 11/16 inches. Mortise will be slightly larger than box. Upon inspection looks all intact although there is some minor wear to the internal mechanism for disengagement of latch slide. 1/16- 1/8 inch) Works although it is slightly short of full recess. It looks that it could be repeened carefully for 100% functionality. Will work as is though. Nice old hard to find lock for your authentic vintage renovation or repair. This auction is for an antique wooden Metronome De Maelzel#202848 made in France. It has a bell and it appears that it is in great working condition. I was not able to find any like it. With the side latch and left side hinge. I am guessing mid 1800's to early 1900's. I really don't have a clue. I am by no means an expert on these. I tried to capture as much detail as I could in my pictures. When I was doing the specifics, it recommended that I add Parquet then when I put in the model# it recommended I put in Carvin. It doesn't have either of these words on it, so I left them out. I thought that I would mention them, If anyone knows any more about them, please let me know. It measures approximately 8 3/4" tall and 4 1/4" wide at the base. The only issues that I can see is that it probably had a piece of wood on the ... morebottom and the back edge is not tight. Looking at the bottom, it looks as though the piece of wood might be too wide. It all looks original, so I don't know. Please look at my other items I have listed. Antique Center Point Drill Brace - Missing latch and spring
This Antique Center Point Drill Brace has a missing latch and spring but has still been gently restored. It could make a good parts brace or be displayed as is. What does gently restored mean? The overall objective is to preserve as much as the old tool or item with a good balance of lifetime patina as possible without the use of power tools. The first step is to dismantle the tool down to individual parts. Metal is typically initially cleaned using mineral oil. Or a weak solution of washing soda and water and if necessary brief burst of electrolysis on to remove and or convert rust to black oxide. For other metals such as brass a brief immersion in a weak solution of food grade citric acid may be necessary. Whichever method is best, a scotch brite plastic cleaning pad is used with water so the underlying metal is not damaged. A heat gun ... moreis immediately used to blow dry and eliminate moisture to which is followed by a hand rubbed coat of a mix of orange and mineral oil to seal the pores. It is often necessary to repeat this step until a satisfactory result is achieved. After letting the oil“soak in” for a day or so, the item is wiped cleaned then hand rub in a purchased but diluted orange oil bees wax mix to seal it. For wood a weak solution of oil soap and water is used to remove grime, old oils and dirt which is air or blowed dry with a heat gun. This is followed by a hand rub of“feed and wax" Normally all other materials are simply wiped clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth as appropriate. If the situation requires it, a soft brass bristle brush or“0000” steel wool is ocassionaly used. A few items should be noted. The first is this gentle process may not remove all rust or dirt. Etc. as there is always a balance of limiting restoration to not affect patina. The second is that there may be surface pitting which is left up to the acceptable discretion of the new owner(for obvious pitting I include a close-up photo) The third is that tools and items are not conditioned for use such as sharpening, tighten
