Hardy St. George 3" Fly Reel - 3 screw latch
Hardy St. George- 3" 3-screw latch. Curved writing prewar reel. Stamped JS fro Jimmy Smith a well known reel smith at Hardy. This is a very tight St. George that has been used and loved for many years. There is one repaired frame crack that can be seen in the photos. I don't know the provenance of the work but it's professional cleanness leads me to believe it may be a factory repair job. There is another very fine crack that I have shown in a close-up photo. The crack seems stable and has not changed at all since I have owned the reel which includes a fair amount of fishing time. There is a tiny bit of bend in the foot but it was not noticeable when I mounted the reel. The milky agate is clear with no cracks as far as I can tell. It is magnetic including the chains. There doesn’t appear to be any markings. The mounting base plate measures approximately 4 15/16” long and 2 3/16” wide. The chain measures approximately 37 1/4” which includes the loop at the end. It has 4 mounting holes. It is made of a heavy construction and is in operational condition. A strong spring action opens and closes it nicely. It shows the usual ware with some missing paint and some oily surface rust thru out. It appears to have no cracks or breaks.
