The base measures 25 1/2” x 13 1/2” and 12” to the middle top. The doors. Inside and walls are copper but the base is iron or some kind of metal. It weighs 38 pounds and the copper has a great patina. The condition is well used, the doors do not close all the way, there is one screw for the hinges missing and the base has some surface rust. Woven Grass Basket with Leather Handles and Hinges. Also has leather straps around the sides and down the back. One hinge is broken and part of the buckle to close the basket is missing. There is a little damage to some of the fiber on the front of the basket. All this you can see in the pictures. I don't recommend using this to actually carry anything but it would make a great display piece with yarn or a picnic blanket spilling out of it. I have no idea how old this basket is. Excellent set of cast hardware for an antique ice box. The set includes the latch. Keep and hinges. The ornate latch works fine. The latch measures approximately 4 3/4" top to bottom, while the hinges are just a bit longer and 4 7/8" There isn't a key for the lock. There are two patent dates on the back of the latch- the oldest is May 18, 1897(not sure beyond 1890-something, hard to read) The hinges have a patent date of Oct. 29, 1901.

The box is ingenious and finely made, with dovetail corners, and thin brass hinges that are inset into the wood. A clasp on the inside holds it shut. A groove on the outside allows you to pull open the"top" and the box opens out to a flat shape by means of hinges at all the edges. Four separate triangular pieces of wood on both sides of the box make it possible to open the box to the flat position. The inside is lined with a soft fabric, one corner of which is coming loose.
