1790 Federal Fireplace Mantel Mantle, white paint over Great Blue, Carved center
Here is a great Mantel. It dates to around 1790. The top board is like a federal mirror in form. Has a great carving in center. White paint over great blue. The white will come off pretty easy. You can chip it away with finger nail. Outside measures 67" wide and 57 1/2" high and the inside measures 41 3/4" high and 53 1/2" wide. Mantle Piece Beam Poplar Antique Antique Reclaimed Lumber From 100 Year Barn Beam Handhewn Poplar Wood Selling As Old Timey Mantle Shelf 7 Foot 2 Inches In Length 8-1/4" Width x 4-3/4" Thick Weight Only 50 Pounds Will Cut Ends Off To Your Specifications Shows Hand-Hewning Marks Chiseled Square& Drilled Holes Unique This is a large mantle piece of 7 foot 2 inches in length. It has been thoroughly cleaned. I have not put any wood treatment on it. Their are several ways in which to mount this on the wall: anchored from behind(where you see only the mantle) or"brackets" of wood or metal. triangular or straight etc. These rectangular hand chiseled holes and were for other notched beams that inserted and locked in place. You are seeing what I think are the best sides to be used as top and front. And you will see this left ... moreend is notched and the right end is flat. The photo above shows the wood wet. Of course the photo props. The bottles etc, do not come with the auction. There are also several drilled holes that I am sure were made with a hand auger. You can add some more if you like. and sometimes wooden pegs and/or metal hooks are great for looks. And to hang x-mas stockings, candle pine. or what have you. The picture below shows the bottom side of the mantle. Which exhibits more worm holes but is quite hard and sound. You may like the look of the ends. But upon request, I can cut a few inches off of each to make them more uniform. I can give it an antiqued worn look and effect, which I am experienced with. The photo above and two below shows the piece slightly wet. Which is to show what it may look like when the buyer treats it with linseed oil, tung oil, or even a clear polyurethane hard-shell coat. Easy! The mantle is displayed on my wood carver's bench. And is only for display purposes. Shipping weight will be closer to 55 pounds.
