Round Metal Grate Here is an interesting round metal grate to add authenticity to your historic home. It is rare to find a metal grate that still has the back vent attached so it is ready to place in a floor. The top grate may also be removed with the loosening of the two screws that hold it on the back. The grate moves freely but I have not tested the screws. It is marked on the back M. M. F. Co. Milwaukee. Wis. 12. There was a time when even the humblest objects were produced with beautiful. Decorative details, as this wonderful, cast iron fireplace grate illustrates. The large back plate is adorned with a deep relief casting, the charming and whimsical image of a grinning, winking moon face set in a field of six-pointed stars. Think of it as a delightful piece of jewelry for your hearth. Condition is rustic. Yet, grand. Part of the fire-bed swivels and lifts out to help with ash removal. The back plate also lifts out. Measures 19 3/4" across the front at its widest point, 14" tall at its tallest point, and 10" deep. This piece was found in New England. The first region of the US to be transformed by the Industrial Revolution in the 19th C, and I believe it originated there in one of the early foundries. We have for sale a Vintage Antique Victorian Cast Iron Floor Wall Heat Register Vent Grate Scroll Design 1894. I have two of these listed at this time. They are matching. I'm listing them separately in case you only need one. If you need both I will be glad to combine shipping. It measures 13-1/4 by 10-1/4 inches. From your wall or floor it will stick out 1-1/4 inches. It is all original. It is black in color with gold accents on the front grill(original paint) There is some additional white paint on this register which I believe would come off without too much trouble. The Louvre portion of the register is dated and stamped 1894. The actual opening you would need in your wall or floor would be 9 X 12 inches. The register works great. Slides easily, no rust, sound good condition. All you need to supply are the four screws to mount it. ... morePaint those screws black and you will never see them. This antique fireplace grate has a heavy-duty industrial look and an interesting and swooping basket shape. The front and back curve smoothly upward and are equal in height and curve. And the thoughtfully-designed legs curve in the opposite direction. Despite its rugged look, these smooth arcs give the grate a geometric quality reminiscent of the early Modernist and Art Deco influences of its day. The piece is obviously used, and does show a moderate amount of rust and discoloration. I did give it a good blasting with a wire brush and a washing to remove the majority of rust and crusty oxidation. This way you can get it placed in position without getting your house dirty! Set of two matching antique cast iron heat registers. The face plate measures 13 5/8" x 9 3/4" The air duct opening is 12" by just under 8" at the base closest to the front. They slant slightly in and at the end and measure 11 1/2" x 7 1/2" They are approximately 2 inches deep. As you can see these do have a few layers of paint on them but it chips off relatively easily. These are used and do you show some signs of age and wear. They have some surface rust in spots. Particularly the louvres. Both still have the louvres and they function. Antique Dated 1886 Cast Iron Decorative Heating Grate Vent, Salvage, NY No. 1
Antique. Dated 1886, Cast Iron Heating Grate Vent Salvaged From An Old House in Corning. N.Y. I picked these up many years ago in Corning New York. The Post Office was building a new branch on Baker Street on Corning's Northside. In order to accomodate the Post Office many old homes. Some of them over 100 years old, had to be demolished. Some of the home owners were smart enough to sell off the fixtures, oak flooring, beautiful molding, windows, doors and heating registers. I was lucky to find six matching heat register vents before the house was demolished. All the heating grate vents are in very good condition aside from some minor wear. All of them were originally wall mounted. There are no cracks or breaks. All are marked Patented 1886- 8 1/2 C Cx. The 8 1/2 must refer to the rough opening needed to install the vents. Measurements: ... moreback side 8" wide x 12" tall x 1" deep(not counting the face plate) Faceplate is 9 7/8" wide x 14" tall. This vent is missing it's center lourve. The lourves open and close with ease. There is some minor surface rust on the backside(see the photos) This heating rate vent is heavy. It weighs 7 pounds before packing. Antique cast iron heat register grate. 4 Working louvres. There is a little dial type piece on the one front side that opens and closes the louvres. There is a hole in it where perhaps something stuck out of it to help move the dial. The front measures approximately 13 3/4" by 9-3/4" and the back insert measures approximately 8" by 12" Approximately 2 inches deep. Please view the pictures for details. This item does show some signs of age and wear. It does have some paint flakes that needs removed and a little bit of surface rust. Please feel free to ask any questions.
