Inside there is a removable grate on the bottom. This iron is so heavy- it's hard to believe someone could really use it(I whine with my lightweight steam iron) It has a great vintage appearance to the metal and the handle appears to be wood painted red with some wear. Grates are marked 8" x 10" which would be the size of the opening in the floor, grate is actually a bit larger the face is raised to be a bit above floor/carpet level. This is a RARE find out of an old house I'm working on. Is's a Gorgeous Victorian cast iron heat register that goes between the floor and ceiling.It comes in 2 pieces of vent pipe that screw together so you can adjust the depth between the floor and ceiling. With and adjustable grate on one side and a decorative ornate grate on the other. It's cast iron, and 10" around. Depth goes from 8" minimum up to 13" for maximum depth. The grates are attached on each end of a galvanized adjustable screw together vent pipe, which allows you to adjust the depth needed to go between the ceiling and floor. It's in EXCELLENT CONDITION. This painted. Cast iron register is 15 ¼” in diameter. The center hole, with the 8-point star removed, is about 6 ¼” in diameter. The center star is convex and raised about 1” from the surrounding surface when in place. There are four hooks that fit in slots to hold the star in place when twisted slightly. 1800's, 9 1/2" Cast Iron No. 8 Round, Floor/Ceiling, Register Grate / Louvers
Rare 1800's Cast Iron Round. Louvered, Floor/Ceiling, Heat Register Round Louvered Open/Shut Compartment Fits an 8 inch Diameter Hole. Fancy Filigreed Floor Grate is 9 1/2 inches in Diameter I'm sure this No. 8 register is the big brother of the No. 5 register that i'm selling in another current auction. But this No. 8 is not marked with the patent date. This register is marked with the number 8 on each of the 3 louvers. On the louver housing, and on the bottom of the floor grate. The 3 louvered system is made for an 8 inch hole, and can be opened or shut by sliding the grooved control on the floor grate. The floor grate is 9 1/2 inches in diameter. The louver vents open and close easily, and the screws in the floor grate come out for cleaning the louver housing. This register has not been repainted and I only wiped it with some ... moreoil to clean out the cob webs. This register has some of the original black paint, and a couple of drips of very dark red paint. Shown in photos. Where the paint has worn off there is some surface rust. This is normal, cast iron will rust where it is not painted. A coat of paint will stop it. I can fit this in a medium flat rate priority box, so choose the priority shipping that is best for your area. I am selling other antique cast iron registers in different auctions. Antique Art Deco Industrial Age painted cast iron grate sculpture/1930s
Let's call this a great grate. It's most likely a grate from an early bellowing furnace. I would say it's Art Deco Machine Age Design and it makes a powerful sculpture as it sits in the photos. It is heavy cast iron and has a fabulous coat of early. Probably original red paint. I would date it to the 1930s. It is about 16" wide and 10" tall. It weighs about 16 pounds. It sits on its own and has two screw holes in the base- a black metal stand attached by screws could be added by the buyer to make it display even better. Condition is as found and as shown. Overall VG with a nice patina. Back side is black and feels a bit sooty. This a striking and simple piece of Industrial Art that would make a huge statement in your home. US ship only. This is a large and pretty old cast iron floor register. This decorative top is larger than most. At 16 inches by 14 inches, and it fits a 14 inch by 12 inch rectangular opening. This antique register is a decorative way to cover the heat vents in your home. The louvers open and close with the thumb wheel, though you need to use more pressure than usual to get them open. There is a chip missing from the thumb wheel. Some of the black finish has worn off, especially around the edges. There is rust where the finish is missing. Couldn't find any makers marks and it appears to me that this is a very primitive. Roughly made piece. Included lots of photos so you can hopefully see for yourself how old this is. It weighs almost 27 pounds and measures 24" by 14 1/2" by approximately 7/8" thick. They do have a bit of rust on them and a few specs of white paint which comes off pretty easily.
