Massachusetts, which was for years the most important Whaling port on the East Coast. As he stands now on his wooden stand he is 18 inches tall and 25 inches long. He is full-bodied gilded copper. Much of the gilding has worn away reveling patches of old copper and verdigris creating a complex and beautiful patina. His surface is completely stable. With no flaking or chipping. All of his seams are tight and he seems to have escaped the indignity of being involved in target practice. He has no serious damage, but there are two small dings, one on each side just before his tail. This Whale is so beautifully made that. In addition to being fine piece of Americana, it is, in itself, a wonderful piece of sculpture. And he still turns cheerfully on his supporting rod. This is for a Large Vintage Antique Iron Horse Drawn Buggy Fire Department Fire Fighters Firemen Weathervane Wind Vane Folk Art. It measures 36 1/2" inches by 16" inches. It is in absolutely great condition but has been shot a few times with a low powered BB gun because it did not penetrate or dent the weathervane. It Just barely knocked the paint off of the horse around the heart area. It is not warped or bent. It say Pisgah VFD. Antique 19th Century Iron Sulky Weathervane or ornamental display piece
Mid to late 19th century Cast Iron weather vane counter weight or ornamental display. Gray Foundry Poultney. VT This piece measures 17" long with a height of 9" At its maximum it is 3/4 of an inch thick. Piece weighs 5 LB 4 OZ. Inscribed stamp on the back reads Gray Foundry Poultney. VT. There is no major structural damage but rusty. Still painted in places with an aqua or teal color. Inspecting the item there are no indications of mounting hardware or weld marks where the unit may have attached to something else. I am therefore not sure of it's true purpose. It may have been part of a weather vane. Gate, or other structure. Please inspect photos for determining condition. Historical Reference The manufacturer is from the Gray Foundry in Poultney. Vermont. A.W. Gray started his business in the 1840's producing farm machinery ... moreand implements with his sons joining the business by the late 1850's. It was around this time the name was changed to A.W. Gray and Sons. By around 1860 the Ruggles Foundry in Poultney was being supervised by the Grays. A new"Gray Line" was added expanding the types of items produced. The Ruggles foundry was purchased by the Grays around 1870. The actual original shop of A.W. Gray was actually in Middletown Springs. Vermont not Poultney. So it reasonable to assume it was produced at the renamed Ruggles foundry which suggests it was part of the new"gray line" This would date the piece to between 1860-1890. However. It is possible it could be an earlier work since larger machinery equipment always included and"Sons" on the stamp. Regardless it is a true antique and rare. I have seen many examples of similar work and cannot find another one like it. Harness racing or"Sulky" was a popular sport which included numerous events around the country and for local sport. The niece and family recently had an estate sale to clear out many items that is where I found this great piece of history. It measures 42” tall overall by 26” wide at the widest. For auction is a four star D& S(Dodd and Struthers) weathervane. Fits on the lighting rods and this one would normally hold the 10 sided D& S lighting rod globe or ball. This is an original and this is the way I purchesed it. It has its original aged finish. I believe this is a cast aluminum and the stars are copper. Aluminum does not darken like other metals and this has a nice aged oxidized patina to it. I guarantee this as old and authentic. It does have a break in the area as shown. I realize this hurts it a little but who is going to use this outside again. It is still solid and displays excellent. These are very hard to find with all of the stars. AAFA antique rooster weathervane or whirlygig with adjustable head circa 1940. This is a super funky folk item that is most likely one of a kind and from rural western Illinois. The paint is deep red on one side and multi on the other. The paint is old and chipping but just adds to the appeal of the rooster. Most of my friends love the multi side but my personal preference is the red side. I have posted pictures of the of the head is the down position(pecking) and up position(hootin) Wood board seems to be original to the piece and stabilized on the bottom(looks a little nuts but works perfectly and you do not see it) to have it balance nicely on a table or shelf. This is a perfect small pig on a triple heart highly collectible arrow. the pig measures four and three quarters inches tall and eight and a half inches long. Large Antique Owl Weathervane With Great Natural Surface!
I was fortunate enough to find this very large mid 1900's owl silhouette weathervane. Possibly made by Kenneth Lynch& Sons. Made of thick brass and probably thick aluminum. Great natural wear and verdigris to the brass. Some paint loss and a few bullet dings. All the things you would expect to find on an old used weathervane. There are a few very fine scratches on the owls which doesn't take away from them. Crossed brass X-base is bent from the wind. Selling the entire set up. Original directionals and all. Antique/Vintage Weathervane Arrow and Directionals Arrow was broken in half near the center. I had a professional solder the two pieces back together using real silver solder. He did a great job! Arrow measures approximately 21-1/2 inches long. It has a set screw. Post hole measures approximately 1/2" in diameter. I believe that the arrow head is brass. Pole is brass, and the"feather" of the arrow is Copper. Directionals are a matching set. They each have set screws. Both measure approximately 18 inches long. I believe they are brass. This very large incredible handmade weathervane is made of hand forged iron with hand riveted and hand forged iron flattend iron rod braces. It originates from the state of Kansas and was atop a barn during the late 1800’s. The owners moved to San Diego California in the early 1940’s and the weathervane went along with them where it set atop an out building and there it remained until 1995 when the matriarch passed away at the age of 105. It was then the weathervane was acquired along with many other family treasures. By the niece. The niece and family recently had an estate sale to clear out many items that is where I found this great piece of history. It measures 42” tall overall by 26” wide at the widest. The hunter is 21” tall the dog is 7” tall. It is made of sheet iron and iron pipe and is hand riveted. The base is iron and is 4” wide ... moreand slopes 6” downward on each side. Antique weathervane arrow maybe Kretzer
This is a really neat weathervane. She has lived a rough life but still a beauty. And very rare. There is significant damage, bullet holes and slightly bent. I say maybe a Kretzer because everything points in that direction however I have no verification. It is the more unusual arrow front, measures the prescribed 23" and most importantly both of the tabs that hold the glass in place appear to be cast with the frame. I believe that the metal in place of the glass was a homemade solution to the glass being broken out.

This is a really neat arrow. I think it might be the Barnett System arrow because of the more rounded leaves on the corner of the glass frame.
