Great Late 19th. Early 20th Century Weathervane What a stunning piece of original American Folk Art! Recently purchased at the Brimfield Mass. Antique Show. The dealer who sold it to us reported it came from a New Hampshire estate, and was uncovered in an early carriage barn. As you can see the form of the piece is the silhouette of an early uniformed soldier. Complete with a sword in this hand and a period hat. From the construction, the piece dates to the turn of the century, possibly a little earlier. Considering the form of the solider both the dealers who we acquired it from and ourselves agreed it was probably ... moreon the lodge of an organization like the Son's of the American Revolution. From it's decades exposure to the elements the piece has a wonderful. Dry oxidized surface with remains of grey and black paint contrasted wonderfully with a slightly pitted surface. There is one small hole on the body of the piece, likely from a small bullet shot, though overall the vane is in very good+ condition and structurally sound. The piece measures an impressive 30 1/2" in length. And about 23" wide. As such the piece would make a commanding display as a piece of folk art constrasted in a home against a wall. This is another piece that really needs to be seen in person and held to guage the great quality and original condition and surfacing. Antique ? vintage bicycle shape copper weathervane well used some damage
Up for bid is an antique or vintage copper weathervane in the shape of an old style large wheel bicycle. I have NO idea how old it is or where it was made. It is about 34 inches long. The large wheel is about 15 inches in diameter. It has corrosion and some broken welds. There has been some bending of the back portion of the flange of the arrow. With some creasing that shows in pictures 10& 11. The back of the arrow will be bent as seen in picture 12 for shipping. This bending will not add any additional creasing the material. 19th c. Antique Folk Art Rooster Weathervane Americana AAFA Sheet Iron Primitive
What a great find we have at auction today. Superb folk art rooster form weathervane. He was cut out from sheet iron. He stands 24" high and is 25 1/2" wide. He body is supported with body straps on both sides which are riveted onto his form. He swivels on vertical rod which is attached to his base. He has a small pointing arrow which is riveted to him from the backside. To add to his charm is the hand forged base which is cut from heavier steel and is also riveted together. He patina is an old wrought iron black paint/finish. He probably has been scraped and repainted at some point. He spent many years in the weather but somebody took good care of him! Up for auction is an antique lightning rod weathervane arrow. This arrow was made by the Reyburn Hunter Company. Philadelphia PA and is stamped"R.H.CO. on both sides of the tail of the arrow. The arrow is all aluminum and measures 22 13/16" in length and 3 1/4" at its widest. Arrow is all intact with no breaks or cracks. One edge of the front of the arrow shows some abrasive wear(shown in the 5th picture) The holes measure 1" in diameter so this arrow will fit on a larger(twisted) rod. Most reproductions are done in 2 halves, and this has 10 pieces welded together, so it definitely has vintage/antique age, but not sure of the date. The mount looks like from the 1950's. Early 20th century or could be earlier. Looks like early piece construction. With no damage. Just good looking. Solid. The balls are brass. And the rest is copper, with a wonderful patina. Antique Prancing Horse Weathervane - AMAZING CONDITION!!!
This is an antique weathervane with what I am pretty sure is the original directionals. I found it in my grandfather's basement in Farmingdale. NY, and could have been on his barn many, many years ago(1930's? I think it might have originally been on my great grandfathers's barn somewhere near Leptondale, NY, prior to the late 1930's. I've shown a picture of my great grandfather on his farm in 1922 in the photo description of this piece. While the photo doesn't show the weathervane in this particular shot, I am fairly certain that this piece lived the first part of it's life at this location, most likely went to my great uncle's home in the same area, and then made it's way down to Long Island, NY to my grandfather's home. It's a great old piece- I'm not sure what type of metal the casting is. ... moreBut it appears to be silver in color. There is no rust or dents, but the paint is flaking on the horse and the directional. It's just a perfect piece for any outbuilding and with a little elbow grease and creativity it could be a beautiful decorative item for display indoors. The horse measures 9" from the tip of its ear to the front hoof. 8" from the top of the rump to the back hoof, and 10 1/4" from nose to tail. The arrow measures 23 1/2" in length. The rod piece of the directional is 22" tall and 16" from letter to letter. These measurements are approximate. Some assembly is required- the directional separates into three pieces. And we separated the pieces to make it easier to ship. The pieces simply screw together(screws are on the"N- E" and the"S- W" the"letters" slide over the rod and are tightened) This item is used and I always try to describe and photograph the items I present for sale as accurately as possible. It served there on the top for over 90 years and was taken down before the barn was torn down. The weather vane is possibly made of copper and iron and is in good condition for its age. The horse has holes in it from being show but can be repaired easily and repainted if desired. This also includes the blue kite glass which is rare and hard to find. The glass is intact with no chips or cracks. The total height of the weathervane is 37" from top to bottom. It is 22" at the widest points. The horse is 8"x9" The glass kite tail is 8.5"x4" This great piece of antique. Farm folk art will make a great addition to any home or building décor.

This is a wonderful VINTAGE ANTIQUE LIGHTNING ROD. DIRECTIONAL WEATHERVANE WITH COUNTRY PRIMITIVE HOLLOW ROOSTER THAT HAS GREAT DETAIL. The weathervane was made for a barn or cupola and is circa 1900, if I had to guess. The directional rod seems to be cast iron, the lightning rod seems to be copper and the rooster is made of what, I think, is zinc. The weathervane is 34" tall and is 23" wide at the arrow. The bottom stand has 2 mounting holes for screws on each leg and the rooster is 10 1/4" tall and 7 1/2" wide. The weathervane is in very nice condition with a very small dent in the lightning rod and there might be a repair on the directional rod. There is a glob of something on it by the arrow. I cannot see what it is because of the paint so I am not sure. It might just be a weight. I have to say, that I did not notice ... moreit when I bought it years ago. The weathervane is a great piece of Americana and would made a great architectural addition to your home or it has many more years of being a weathervane. Here we have for sale a very ornate lightning rod weathervane shaft. This is 100% guaranteed original. The fancy iron shaft is 23" tall and fits a 3/4" sprial rod. There is a split in the seam on the rod towards the front. By the looks of the mounting holes. It had a small cow originaly. Also included is the original ferrule that this was on. Here we have for sale a very nice lightning rod glasstail weathervane. This vane is 18" long and fits a twisted style rod. It has the original red over clear glass with a nice fat snowflake design. There is old staining on the glass and the frame has some silver roof paint. The small nick like area visable at the top center of the glass 3rd picture. Isn't an actual nick or damage. It is actually a small cut to see which side of the glass is the red side. I have a couple other glasstails with this same"test" mark. These designs are cut with a wheel. You grind through the thin red layer exposing the clear layer and viola you have your design. If you mistakenly made a big cut on the clear side, you ruined your glass. The frame is straight with no damage. This is a darn good looking little glasstail and is worthy of the best ... morecollections.

Welcome, For sale is a vintage antique running horse weathervane. The head is bronze as well are the directionals while the body is copper. The horse is supported on the the original rod. The rod needs to be soldered back to the horse though. The dimensions: Horse from front foot to back foot- 32 inches. From bottom of middle foot to top of back- 8.5 inches. The directionals- 31 inches from one end of the rod to the other(height) 13 inches between each directional letter. This weathervane was produced in around the 1950's.

Here we have for sale a very nice horse for a lightning rod weathervane. This is the small trotting horse. It is made of tin and is soldered together in two halves. This was covered in layers upon layers of paint. I stripped it and it turned out great. All seams are tight. No dents or bullet holes. Has a nice rusty surface but not badly pitted or rusted thru. The wires are very solid and it's ready to remount. This is a very nice condition small pony, no junk here. I put a quite a bit of time in cleaning this up to make it useable!

antique weathervane with replaced tail [ 19 1/2" ]
A 19 1/2" long weathervane with a one of a kind replaced tail. The center hole is around 3/4" in diameter. I rolled the stamped tin around the wires of the vane and then applied an industrial adhesive to make an even better connection. The tail is attached securely to the vane. Antique Copper Whale Weathervane Handmade New England Nautical Patina 23" X 19"
Stunning antique copper whale weathervane topper with fantastic age and patina. Acquired from a New England estate. This is one of the most beautiful and lovingly crafted nautical weathervane toppers I have ever come across. The work that went into this handcrafting this piece is absolutely astounding. With amazing attention to detail. The main body of the whale appears to be comprised of two large pieces of copper hewed together along a seam down the middle. The tail fin is of similar build. The bottom fins are fashioned out of their own, separate pieces of copper and attached along a charming copper arch. The artisan went so far as to even line the inside of the whale's gaping mouth with copper. The whales eye appear to be charmingly hammered or imprinted somehow in the metal. The whale is attached to a hollow copper rod finishing in ... morea small copper ball. The piece is- as I acquired it from estate- mounted on what appears to be a steel base. A separate copper ball rests at the bottom of the mount. Both the whale and the ball can be removed from the stand. The patina and are of the copper is fantastic. The body of the whale. At its longest(head to end of fin) approximately 23" His body is about 5.5" tall. The hollow copper rod and ball on which he sits is about 7" tall. The separate copper ball is about 4" tall and 13" in circumference. Mounted on the base the whale stands about 19" tall. This copper weathervane form was made by soldering two pressed halves together on top of brass tubing. His ears were separately soldered onto his head. He is large enough to be a statement piece but still small enough that you can find a place to display him. He's mounted on a small 100+ year old hand hewn barn beam. It's about 30yr old. i think made out of aluminum, because of the color is silver, it's statue of Paul Revere so for it's the only left, in the garage for a long time Born January 1. 1735, Paul Revere was a silversmith and ardent colonialist. He took part in the Boston Tea Party and was principal rider for Boston's Committee of Safety. In that role, he devised a system of lanterns to warn the minutemen of a British invasion, setting up his famous ride on April 18, 1775. Folk hero Paul Revere was born January 1. 1735, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of Apollos Rivoire, a French immigrant who'd come to America on his own at the age of 13, and Deborah Hichborn, a Boston native and the daughter of an artisan family. Apollos. Who changed his name to the more English-sounding Paul soon after arriving in America, was ... morean artisan himself. Antique UNUSUAL Tin Hollow Body Lightning Rod Horse Weathervane
Here we have for sale an unusual looking tin hollow body two piece horse weathervane. Not sure about the origins of this one. A guy had several lightning rods that came out of Illinois and this was part of his collection. The arrow is 20-3/4" long and made if cast iron. The horse is 8-1/4" long and 5-1/2" tall. It is made of two pieces of tin. It is swelled just like all other hollow body lightning rod animal vanes. It has detail as well. It is soldered together in spots but looks like it never was totally soldered all the way around. It has been painted black some years ago and has seen"use" in the air. It kinda reminds me of a Moore Bro. style horse that mounts on it's two middle legs. No damage or repairs. It's needs to be stripped of the paint to make it look real good. As a side note. Let me add this. ... moreI have not seen this style horse before which don't really mean anything because I haven't seen it all anyways. The arrow shaft doesn't appear to have ever had anything else mounted on it before. No extra holes or solder spots. The shaft is unquestionable as to being original to the front. Antique Dachshund Weathervane / Scultpure Signed & Dated
This gorgeous looking Antique Weathervane of a Dachshund. Is signed and dated. I can't make it out with certainty but appears to be dated 1958. It was on the roof of the house I grew up in. And the house was built in the 50's or early 60's so it would make sense that the 1958 date would be correct. The separate North/South section of the Weathervane had a piece cracked off and long since lost, so it was thrown away. The house was torn down but I kept this piece because I always thought it would go up on a wall in my office. Den or kitchen but my wife doesn't like it, so now it can be yours! Good luck bidding! This is a antique weathervane arrow that measures approx. 23 inches long. It has some surface rust. One of the corners where the square plate is has a crack all the way thru, it has not been cleaned& may have scratches or chips somewhere. Not trying to make it sound bad but it's how I see it, still a hard item to find& still works or good to restore.
