This is an antique copper colored tin ceiling tile in an exquisite design reminiscent of a bygone era. Circa 1910; this is a beautiful piece of architectural history to hang and display! There are some tiny holes in which to put nails through to hang it around the edges. The edges are slightly bent in some areas. It probably happened when they were removing it. You know an oversized 5" x 5" tile isn't standard fare you just don't see them available very often. especially- in this deep velvety purple the purple of this tile is nothing short of incredible- i have to be honest. the saturation is so intense that it practically vibrates. imagine what this color would look like in your hand- if you're someone who has an appreciation for color. and if you are a purple lover like i am- you should absolutely own this tile. the design suggests something oriental and something magic to me- certainly something geometric. reminds me of an oriental seal or chop. a thing that would have been used as a signature stamp in correspondence way back when. the geometry and razzle dazzle of light play pings and bounces like no other i have ever seen. Item Description ~ Fine antique Japanese Art Tile Placque or Panel. Likely of Mashiko Japan, Meiji circa late 1800s to early 1900s, from a local Estate. Signed with impressed seal, lower right. Old folklore scene depicting a Diety or Woman riding a dragon through clouds and ocean waves, in raised relief on stoneware slab with Tenmoku ash glaze. The tile is about 17 by 11 inches including a 1 inch border and is in excellent condition with no damage. Cracks or repairs. The old purple hanging cord has faded and should be replaced. The unglazed backside has a nice patina, darkened from age. Although there is no damage. We note the glaze on the woman's clothing has crazed and the placque has minor typical imperfections/sand spots in the stoneware surface and tenmoku glaze, usual for these types of stoneware and kiln fired ash glaze pieces. ... moreThere is some kiln ash residue on outside edges. The scene on this tin glazed tile depicts Pontius Pilate washing his hands in the matter of the deposition of Jesus Christ. Jesus is depicted on the right with a symbolic halo aura and is being escorted away by an armed soldier after the crowd selected to free Barabbas. Instead. Condition is good with the tile having crazing, a scrape to the bottom right hand facia and the edges being marked commensurate with being use and age(nearly 300 years! This and others were removed from a wall. 5” square tile. See Photographs This scene is a rendering of events taken from the Gospel according to St. Matthew. Particularly Chapter 27, Passage 24 where Pontius Pilate"took water and ... morewashed his hands" as a symbolic gesture to show that he"was innocent of the blood of this just person" Chaffer01 is pleased to offer this nearly 300 year old rendering which would have been hand painted by a Delft decorator of a very important event in the history of Christianity. Antique Minton 8 inch Tile - Design by C. Dresser Circa 1885
This striking design was copied from one of the colour plates in Christopher Dresser's'Studies in Design' published in 1876. This 8 inch example was made by Minton some time after that date probably Circa 1885. The tile was produced in other colour ways but this lovely combination of light& dark blues on a white background with tiny highlights of golden yellow is my favourite. The underglaze printing is sharp and clear and typical of the high quality produced by the Minton factory at this time. The reverse is marked'Mintons China Works Stoke on Trent' in raised letters together with the globe trademark. Condition: Excellent with no cracks.Crazing, face chips or restoration. Slight surface scuffing but visible only when the tile is held horizontally to a bright light. The reverse has a small chip to the back R H corner ... morewhich is not visible from the front and extends to approximately half the thickness of the tile. Rare Antique Stencilled Art Nouveau Tile by Lea& Boulton 1896-1902! Hello! This slip stencilled Lea& Boulton Art Nouveau tile measures 6" x 6" and is in good condition with a little glaze crazing.just mentioned for accuracy of description. It's press marked"LT" and"E NGLAND" Look closely at photo 4. The"LT is to the left at the top and the"E" in ENGLAND starts at the bottom left corner. I have others where the marks are clearer but this is the tile in the be st condition. There are other antique tiles on offer on this site. Thanks for viewing this listing. ANTIQUE MAJOLICA TUBE LINED PILKINGTON TILE ART NOUVEAU c1905
An antique tile made by Pilkington in c 1905. It is in shades of green and gold on a tan background. It is tube lined and the design is typical of its era. Looks like a Rennie MacIntosh design. It measures 6 inches square and is in reasonable order for its age. The photograph shows two orange patches. These are reflections and the tan colour is even over the tile. There is about seven pinhead white marks where the glaze has come away where the crazing has been(please see photograph) The back of the tile is rust stained, where it has been attached the a cast fireplace.

Antique Armorial Ceramic tile with shield showing the arms of BEAUFORT
Antique ceramic tile. Stamped on the reverse STOKE ON TRENT. Size: 149 mm by 149 mm by 11 mm(thick) = 5 7/8" by 5 7/8" The printed design shows a shield bearing the arms of BEAUFORT- certainly one of the leading and most famous families in England since the Middle Ages(and not unimportant in the history of Scotland) Condition: on the whole good.
