Anatolia to Central Asia. 11th- 13th Century I.Iridescent Seljuk Star Tile 1.The Sejuks ruled from Central Asia, through Iran, Iraq, Syria south to Mecca& eastern Anatolia, during the eleventh to twelfth centuries. Several dynasties of Turkish origin created unique Islamic art forms now referred to as Seljuk art. Amongst their achievements was production of cobalt blue& luster ware potteries. Vintage/Antique Tile & Wrought Iron Table/Stand Spanish Mission
Nice old piece with a very pleasing form. The way the legs are formed and splayed out I get the impression it is going to walk away. Leg spread at the toes is 17"17 1/2" Height is 15 1/4" Table top is 13 1/8" x 13 1/8" Tile is bordered with heavy iron around the perimeter and also a sheet of iron on the underside. Tiles are tight and not chipped or cracked but do show some age crazing. Iron could use a fresh coat of rustoleum paint. Weighs over 12 lbs before packing but will incur even more dimensional weight due to the large box needed to cover that leg spread. This is a nice example of an antique architectural tile featuring Masonic images. There is the large"G" surrounded by the compass and the square. These are surrounded by vines. On the back are what I am assuming are catalog numbers. It is done in a dark sparkly brown glaze. It is 3 3/4" wide by 2 1/2" tall by 5/8" thick. It is in good condition. There are some chips along the edge. This and other tiles I have for sale were excavated from a site that was the refuse area for a tile store or tile setter in the early 1900s. This site was in the northwestern Chicago suburbs. These tile could have been made by one of the famous Chicago area architectural tile makers, such as True Brunkhorst or TECO.
