Antique Cast Iron Door Knob Lever Lock &Back Plates Set Shabby Paint Small Door
Offered here is an antique. Metal(mostly cast iron) door knob and lock set. The set is complete and includes the small door knob, lever handle, back plates Escutcheon and the lock. The lock does not require a key as it is operated with a slide pin from the interior. This set is fro a small door. The knob measures 1 3/4" in diameter. The lock box measures 3 1/4" on the face with the box part that is inserted in the door measuring 2" square. It's a very old set, 19c I think and has paint remnants. The knob and lever handle turn easily. The sliding lock works but takes a harder push due to some rust. I removed most of the rust that is sh own in the photo with a light penetrating oil. I have several other groups of antique and vintage hardware being offered in other auctions. They include antique door knobs, back plates, hinges, ... moredrawer pulls and door knockers. Beautiful Original Antique Brass Push Plates for Swinging Door
Two fantastic antique brass push plates. NOT reproductions. These are the real deal. I gave one a v quick polish with Maas and it shined up in 90 seconds. Another couple of minutes and it would be blinding. Three inches wide and eleven and three-quarters inches long. The plates are thin and light but not so then that the bend. Thick enough that the pattern cannot be flattened. I cannot tell if they are brass over copper or solid brass. The back appears to be copper but I don;t believe only one side could be plated. In any case the fronts have no metal or colors showing through except for brass. The screw holes hace a bit of vertigris green but that is leftver from the screws that held it to the door. I had this on my kitchen door for eight or ten years. They stayed shiny. There are a few dings. This is a total of 52 pieces of antique door hardware consisting of beautiful solid heavy cast brass. Bronze, cast iron, some copper and brass swirl plates and knobs. Including pair of porcelain knobs and one amethyst glass and brass knob(surface crack on face. Please see above description of noted flaws due to age wear and photos. There are 22 knobs, 17 door plates, 11 locks including Mortisse, etc. plus 2 turn knobs and one large brass lock face plate. In this lot of hardware there are 6 full individually matching complete sets and four highly detailed highlighted cast iron plates by Eastlake. Also one set of door knobs of shining white metal I believe to be vintage Mercury knobs. Many ways to match up miscellaneous plates and door knobs with extra locks included to create more sets. This lot could almost fill an entire house. As for the ... morerestored finish which has most pieces in their gorgeous high lustered original patinas. I have 16 years experience in antique metal restoration and in the case of these pieces I felt that the best way to put the hardware to use in it's best finish was to refinish them. This is because most of these pieces came to me with either layers of paint or heavy dull lacquer as was commonly done in the late 1800's to early 1900's. Some pieces were heavily rusted. At any rate I left ALL OF THE PIECES UN-LACQUERED OR VARNISHED AND THEY WILL SHORTLY NATURALLY RETURN TO A SOFT MELLOW PATINA which can be kept up with hand polishing if desired which is also the best thing to do for the metal. If the high luster is desired the pieces can be lacquered to retain that finish. There are a few of the locks that have not been refinished. These pieces are various makers such as Eastlake. Antique Russell& Erwin 1895 Art Noveau pattern. In excellent condition. Plates measure 1-7/8" x 7'1/4" and are of heavy weight stamped brass. Two cast brass. Heavy-weight knobs measure 2-1/4" each way at their widest points(diameter and length. The original spindle and original set screws are included; no screws for the door plates and no mortise lock. These antiques have their original finish.appears to have have a bright copper finish on the recesses of the pattern, and a more dull copper finish for the rest of the plates and knobs. 3 Door/Face/Back Plates I believe they are all brass but I am NOT an expert. The large one has a cool intricate design on it however it is a little bent(Please see the pictures. I tried to bend it back into place and it bent very easily. So you could probably straighten it I think. Also this piece is a bit rusty. The 2 smaller pieces have a little bit of paint splattered on them but that can be easily cleaned. These are the kind of pieces that put that"Finishing Touch" on an old restoration project. Personally I love this kind of stuff. I own an old house and I love the way that the original hardware was constructed to last almost forever it seems. THESE DOOR PLATES ARE FROM HISTORICAL TIMES. THEY WERE IN A BUILDING BUILT IN THE 1800'S. THEY ARE UNIQUE AND RARE. ONE IS STAMPED 401 1/2 6569 Y&T AND THE OTHER IS STAMPED 401. 401 1/2, AND Y&T. THEY MEASURE 12" X3 3/4" WITH THE HOLES BEING APPROX. 1 1/4" AND 1" IN DIAMETER.
