They are made of solid brass and have rounded corners. At the point of salvage. The plates were found dirty and unevenly tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've cleaned them to the best of our ability, but were unable to remove some of the stubborn tarnish. If you prefer a shiny, polished brass, this look is not for you, but it's perfect for those who prefer a distressed finish. Considering that the pieces were probably touched hundreds or even thousands of times. They are in great shape. The plate shown on the left side of the photos has slightly noticeable dent spanning 1" down from the upper edge. Antique rare 12 matching sets Victorian era door knob sets back plates 19th cent
hard to come by authentic matching units for doors. Each one has front plate and on the inside there is a round plate as well as a key hole escutcheon. they came to us by way of an estate that was instrumental in the renovation of an old brownstone there was a note with them stating They came out of a 19th-c brownstone at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. Along with other architectural elements, when the residence was renovated for a new faculty member. I believe they are Arts& Crafts elements. Or Eastlake Victorian-but these are rare as they have the door plates, The father was the person who removed them from the home. they passed to the lady that I selling them for they have not been polished some a bit more tarnish than others. the knobs on the back of the doors so to speak do not fit down inside the round cup plate but the ... morefront ones do fit inside the seat ring. there are some set screws missing from the knobs to tighten them on the spindles and as stated there are a couple of sets missing spindle the back plates are 5 1/2 inch by 2 inch wide. the opening for spindle is 1 3/4 inch above keyhole the keyhole is about 1 inch in from outer edge. the knobs are 21/4 inch across. and about 2 1/4 deep. the escutcheons are 1 3/4 inch by 1 inch. the round back plate is about 2 1/8 inch. there is a number on the back of the door front plates 1241. these are heavy solid brass not a thin stamp pattern brass. please ema l any questions selling all together

Six Pairs of Antique Cast Door Knobs and Back plates. I think these might be Yale. But I am not sure. On the back of each back plate is stamped"V02066" They are cast iron(a magnet sticks to them) with a bronze plating. As seen in the photos the plating is brighter on some than on others. They appear to have a protective spray coating on them that is a low lustre. The back plates are 6 1/4 inches by 2 1/8 inches. The knobs are 2 1/4 inches in diameter. If anyone knows the name of the pattern. I would appreciate you letting me know so I can add that to the description. Also. Lot of 4 brass plated ornate antique vtg door escutcheon plates
I bought these to use on a project that have since decided not to do. When I got them they were covered in paint. I cleaned them up as best I could. And very lightly sanded them to bring out some of the brass. I also hit them with a light spray coat of satin poly, but it wasn't enough as you can see a little rust showing through on the left edge of the far right plate. Also included are 8 new brass Phillips screws that I aged through a special process to give them some patina.
