Antique Ball Top Vintage Hammered Copper Plate Andirons Antique Fire Dogs
This nice pair of andirons came from an antique store in southeast Michigan. I was told they are quite old. But I have no way of narrowing down the age. My only guess(and it is just a guess) is that they are from after 1921. This is because the castings have the word"Japan" in the back. Before the McKinley Act of 1890. Most imported items were not marked. Between 1890&1921. Most items said"Nippon" or"Dai Nippon Teioku" and after 1921, the import law required English on the origin marking, so"Japan" was used. Shortly thereafter. The full sentence"Made In Japan" gained prominence. The andiron pair is cast iron with a copper plating. Studying the casting leads one to conclude they were made in rammed up green-sand molds. The finish is copper. But has natural age coloration. I chose to leave ... morethem as-found. I did not want to destroy the patina. Some areas are bright and some are dull or even a dark color. The outside edge of one foot has some green tarnish starting on the copper. This should be polished off or waxed over to stop it from spreading. The backsides are not polished and are dark. They may or may not have copper plating in the backs. Often. The unseen side of an object would be masked off with wax so the expensive plating material(copper) would not stick& be wasted. I would imagine they will look quite nice when shined up. But the patina of age looks good to my eyes. There are a lot of areas with dirt in the crevices. Again. T hey have not been cleaned nor polished. I'll leave that decision up to you. Each andiron is solid and has no cracks nor chips. They are sturdy& heavy- Weighing about 14 pounds for the pair. There are dimensions in a couple of the photos. The log arms will be removed for safe and efficient shipping. They re-attach with a screw. Please see the photos. Shipping will be prompt! They stand 16 inches tall and 19 inches deep with feet that are 12 inches wide. They are super heavy duty and will last for many many years. They have been used but they were made to last forever and still act like when I purchased them. They have the slip knot loop at the top and stand firm and forever sturdy in your fireplace opening. I am starting them off at a very reasonable starting bid and also an excellent buy it now. These have been going at 300 and up new. antique rare gigantic hand wrought solid iron fireplace tool set + pair andirons
This is a very rare set of gigantic antique solid handmade wrought iron fireplace tools/ andiron set. The whole set is completely handmade from extremely heavy iron and completely hand wrought with intense detailing. made around the turn of the century and done by a master blacksmith. the andirons are a large set and wrought from 3 solid pieces. The two swirled legs and the middle shaft which is bend to the a 90 degree angle to the place where the wood rests. they have very large detailed tops and swirled shafts. Very well made and each measures 22 1/2 inches tall by 21 1/2 inches back to front by 12 1/2 inches wide. The iron tool set is truly a stellar/ gigantic set. it is a double swirled tri-footed stand with a massive swirled shaft and swirled finial with ball top. it take extreme skill to achieve the things these pieces have achieved. ... morethere are three arms at the top which are also swirled and have U shaped hooks with curved tips to hold the square part of each tool. the stand alone measures a large 42 inches tall by 18 inches wide. And very heavy. There are three tools which all are hand wrought from very thick/ heavy iron. Have swirled shafts, and nicely stylized O-shaped handles. a large shovel with a wide head and beautifully riveted to the shaft with a spike mount and swirled sides. 2. the poker has a very nice stylized dual sided tip which is very thick and an affective tool. 3. last but not least is the grabber. It has half ball shaped tips that create a sphere when met together, and a great thick iron curved neck. all the tools are all very heavy quality iron. each tool measures about 40 inches long and the shovel head is 10 1/2 inches wide. The whole set is in great shape with a nice patina. These are a pair of old solid brass andirons. They were found in antique New England home that was purchased by a customer of ours. They have the inscription" English Bellows R. I. 260" on the shanks as you can see in the photos. They do have a greenish tarnish on the bottom front and back of the brass legs. It could be buffed out. They stand 23" tall 16" deep from front to back and the shanks are 12" deep. Really pretty andirons for that antique home.

The outer andirons measure 22" deep and 20" tall. And the middle andiron measures 20" deep and 20" tall. Fireplace Andirons, old,made by blacksmith,17" tall,15"deep,old design
These are some old andirons that were made by a blacksmith here in New England. They came out of an old home here in Mass. They are in excellent condition as the backs(shanks) are not worn out. They have the old loop design to the top curl of the andiron. The color is a goldish antique brass with the black showing thru. You could paint them all black if you wanted to but I thought the worn look goes well with these andirons. They measure 17 1/2" tall. 15 1/2" deep. The width across the bottom feet is 12 3/4" If you want a pair of andirons to match the old antqiue look, these would be great. We do excellent packing to prevent any damage. See our feedback.

You are viewing a set of cast iron andirons signed by G. A. Kelly(George Addison Kelly) of the Kelly Plow Company. Design is skeleton key style with star. They are in wonderful condition and measurements are 13" high x 8 1/2" wide x 12" long. There is a brief history of this company below. KELLY PLOW COMPANY. The only full-line plow factory in the Southwest, began in 1843, when John A. Stewart began making crude plows in a shop operated by a man named Sanders near Marshall, Texas. In 1848 Stewart moved his plow patterns to Four Mile Branch, a popular campsite for wagoners, four miles west of Jefferson, Texas. Stewart and his brother-in-law, Zachariah Lockett, made plows and operated a general repair shop, where they melted iron in a pocket furnace heated by charcoal. George Addison Kelly joined the company in 1852. The firm ... morebecame Kelly and Stewart in 1858, when it erected a larger building and added cast-iron stoves, cooking utensils, machinery castings, and andirons to its products. Kelly bought full ownership in 1860, the same year that he developed the Blue Kelly Plow, which later became so widely used in Texas that"Kelly" became a household word and"Blue Kelly" was synonymous with plow. During the Civil War the Kelly Plow Company was a part of the arsenal for the Confederacy. It turned out plows. Civilian utensils, and cast-iron cannonballs. It produced a new"pony plow" during Reconstruction. By 1866 the enlarged business began to manufacture its own iron by smelting East Texas ores in a furnace two miles west of Kellyville. The coming of railroads and the decline of Jefferson as a commercial center decreased the value of Kellyville as a factory location. The plant burned in 1880, and Kelly transferred the salvage to Longview in 1882. General agricultural implements were added to the line of products in 1882, and in 1907 the plant produced a full line of steel plows and tillage implements.
