i This photo was took before I polished it(its better now) you can see my safe plate mirrored in the Bakelite! 1950/60s'PRESTO' Bakelite switch in almost perfect condition! Yes it passes all the tests for true Bakelite! Bakelite or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride. Is an early type of plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin. Formed from an elimination reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. It was developed by Belgian-born chemist Leo Baekeland in New York in 1907. One of the first plastics made from synthetic components. Bakelite was used for its electrical nonconductivity and heat-resistant properties in electrical insulators. Radio and telephone casings, and such diverse products as kitchenware. Jewellery. Pipe stems, and children's toys. Bakelite was designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark in 1993 ... moreby the American Chemical Society in recognition of its significance as the world's first synthetic plastic. The" retro" appeal of old Bakelite products has made them collectible. In great working order! Heavy duty 10 amp porcelain switch- ideal for lighting- they were used in a typical 1950's office to switch the lights on(and off) but can be used outdoors- they have a rubber gasket) Designed to be used with 3/4 inch standard conduit that(due to the frogs- decimalisation) is now changed to 22mm- so if you use new conduit an innocuous small adaptor(£1) can easily be obtained from the conduit suppliers. I will look to find my stash and put one in with this) I have only ever seen them at one location- there were four switches in some offices at a n old factory near Sheffield and that's it! Never seen anything like them before or since. They are made from a lovely rich chocolate coloured thick Bakelite. That I have further enhanced by Polishing. The switch mechanism is a rotary one that turns through 360 degrees either way and so cannot be forced past any stops- so no danger of breakage, it has a nice defined'clunk' Most of the switches I am sell

When you turn the switch off. There is a several minute delay before it switches your light off. According to the advertisment, this would give the user time to get into bed or move out of the room before the lights went of. An interesting concept I must say, too bad it never really caught on making this a pretty rare item. The unit does click several minutes after flipping the switch so I am guessing it still works. I cannot say how reliable these were or are since the item is so old. The packaging is great with Arthurs face printed on it along with the sales pitch! Item packaging is good with no major damage. Perfect find for your period restoration! Brown Bakelite single switch cover. I was looking for the perfect three pole style for my antique bathroom restoration. And I found one for almost 50 dollars! I have no use for this one. So I want to see someone get it that needs it. They are nicer than picture suggests.there was some dirt on the lens or something, I think. Have a lot of Ivory(mostly Sierra) ones listed also. Along with some other period plug adapters. Here is a Unique Art Deco Cameo Bakelite(I believe it to be bakelite) Light Switch Cover. It has the Cream Flat Plate with linear design with an oval Cameo with a Fanciful Dressed Woman as the switch. It would look great with one of the lighted switches behind it. The plate measures 5 1/2" by 3" with the Oval Cameo that slides up and down being 1 5/8" by 2" It has some yellowing on it but it is in Great Shape and works great. This is a must For the Art Deco or Cameo Enthusiast home or collection.

Turn Switch bakelite twist knob nickel porcelain old antique light single pole
Welcome to my listing. You are buying a Turn Switch bakelite twist knob nickel porcelain old antique light single pole Great old single pole 2-wire twist switch with a bakelite"ON/OFF" turn button. It was made in the USA by Perkins. It is patent dated on the bottom SEPT 17 1912. The black turn button has PERKINS name cast into it. I tested the switch with a continuity tester and it tests ok. It works by twisting. You stop when the contacts make contact to keep the circuit complete and twist again to turn it off. It is 2 1/2" in diameter and 2 1/8" deep. Rating stamped on the outside 10A 250v 5A 250V. und lab insp. Some of the nickel plating is worn on the front. Antique Bakelite Plastic Switch Knights Head Bust Slider On Off Light Plate Rare
This is a very nice antique"Slider" switching plate. The Knights head and the entire plate are in fine shape. Works fine. Sliding his head up or down moves the light switch arm. Looks like some glue may be on the side of his nose. But I`m not going to pick it. I think it`s Bakelite, feels like it, has weight to it, but I can`t be sure- just don`t know. Top and bottom edges are about 1/4" thick and sides are maybe 1/8' = it`s not a cheaply made piece. Needs to be cleaned up a bit. I don`t know how old this is but it is a old plate.
