Roman Bronze Amulet Bird
Roman Bronze Bird measures: 125 mm/ 46 mm weight: 20 gm The Roman Empire was the post-Republican period of the ancient Roman civilization. Characterised by an autocratic form of government and large territorial holdings in Europe and around the Mediterranean. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus. The 500-year-old Roman Republic, which preceded it, had been weakened and subverted through several civil wars. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days of the Republic, but the empire reached its greatest extent ... moreunder Emperor Trajan: during his reign the Roman Empire controlled approximately 6.5 million km2 of land surface. Because of the Empire's vast extent and long endurance, the institutions and culture of Rome had a profound and lasting influence on the development of language, religion, architecture, philosophy, law, and forms of government in the territory it governed, particularly Europe, and by means of European expansionism throughout the modern world. In the late 3rd century AD, Diocletian established the practice of dividing authority between four co-emperors, in order to better secure the vast territory, putting an end to the Crisis of the Third Century. During the following decades the empire was often divided along an East/West axis. After the death of Theodosius I in 395 it was divided for the last time.8] The Western Roman Empire collapsed in 476 as Romulus Augustus was forced to abdicate by Odoacer. The Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire ended in 1453 with the death of Constantine XI and the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks led by Mehmed II. FORVM Roman Bronze Bird Fibula 1 1/4 inch 3rd - 5th Century AD
Roman. Bronze Bird Fibula, c. 3rd- 5th Century A.D. A fibula(plural fibulae) is an ancient brooch. Technically. The Latin term, fibulae, refers to Roman brooches; however, the term is widely used to refer to brooches from the entire ancient and early medieval world that continue Roman forms. Fibulae were used to fasten clothing or, in some cases, purely for decoration. They followed the straight pin in evolution and were eventually replaced by buttons. They are perhaps most famous as the fastener on Roman military cloaks- the sagum and paludamentum. However, they were used centuries before Rome was founded and for centuries after it fell. They were used by Greeks, Persians, Phrygians, Celts, Germans, Slavs and many other peoples in addition to Romans. They were used by soldiers and civilians; by men, women and children. They can thus signify ... moreculture, tribe, sex, status or profession- though not always. They were used on robes, shirts and dresses as well as cloaks. One thing they were never used on was the toga, which was simply folded and draped and was not fixed by any pin. AS61829. Roman fibula; cf. Hattatt BOA 1156- 1159; 1.25 inches. Roman Bronze Bird Belt Buckle with Stone
Roman Bronze Bird Belt Buckle with Stone measures: 73 mm/ 40 mm weight: 31 gm The Roman Empire was the post-Republican period of the ancient Roman civilization. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days of the Republic, but the empire reached ... moreits greatest extent under Emperor Trajan: during his reign the Roman Empire controlled approximately 6.5 million km2 of land surface. CV Roman Bronze Ring ***NEW*** INCREDIBLE SONG BIRD LARK INTAGLIO RING
ROMAN BRONZE RING Amazing Bronze Intaglio Ring featuring a Singing Songbird or LARK Size 7 1/4 Average Opening = 17.45mm Antiquities Corner is proud to present this fine historical artifact for your collecting pleasure. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST! This MUSEUM QUALITY ring was found at an Ancient Roman site in the Balkans and dates from the time of Julius Caesar ca 100 B.C. 100 A.D. I barely need words to describe this ring. Just look at my pictures and ALL of your questions will be answered. This ring features a 12mm round bezel. This ring comes with a super intaglio engraving. The engraving is of a songbird which I believe ... moreis a LARK. This motif can be found on many ancient artifacts and to have one in this condition on such a nice ring is a rare treat indeed. The Lark shows up in many legends and myths. The lark is supposed to have been the very first animal created on earth according to many Near East religions and it was also thought to be the messenger of Orpheus. There was a legion of Gauls raised by Caesar. Legio V Alaudae"The Larks" was made up of Celtic warriors from Transalpine Gaul. This was a first for a Roman legion because the name is a Celtic name and not a Latin cognomen. Because of the mirror-like. Curving surfaces, it was extremely difficult to get any pictures which would show the details apparent to the naked eye. Look at the details! You'll notice the open beak of the bird singing. The head of the bird is just barely over 1.5mm. The ring may also be a bit on the small side but finding one with such a pretty design is getting harder to find. If it had been a few sizes larger the starting price would be $50 to $75 higher. This ring would be a jewel among jewels in ANY museum collection of Ancient Jewelry. Here is your chance to own a True Museum Quality piece of Anci
