While I always liked ancient coins I never really got very serious about them. Nor did I accumulate much knowledge on them. However I did once have the ... moreopportunity to purchase a large group of ancient coins accumulated by a collector and part time dealer, who decided to just sell everything he had. So I have been listing them here on ebay, with any information he had noted on each one. But please judge for yourself, both by the description below and the photos, as to whether his attribution and any noted condition is indeed correct. I will combine shipping if you just let me know that you will be bidding on additional coin listings. PLEASE NOTE: I have had a couple of inquiries regarding more background on these Roman coins. And where they might have been originally found. The collector/dealer from whom I purchased the entire group was originally a dealer for them in England, before he relocated to the USA. In fact the vast majority of them are in folded holders that are priced in English Pounds Sterling, ranging from a low of 8 BPS(about $13 USD) to a high of 25 BPS(about $40) Some have had the BPS price crossed out and the USD price overwritten instead. As the internet indicates that the Roman conquest of England began in 43 A.D. under Claudius, and that this Roman occupation of England ended in 410 A.D. I believe that the vast majority of these coins were originally located in England, as the range of dates of the examples I purchased match up closely to this English occupation period by Romans. I expect that due to this history there exists many collectors of Roman coins within Enland. And why this person had originally dealt in them. The coins themselves range from examples that were obviously originally located in the ground(metal detecting finds) to those that appear to have seen very little use(storage hoard finds) The price in BPS noted on each example doesn't seem to always coincide with the coin's physical condition, so the original pricing is expectedly more due to the scarcity, desireability,

Marcus Aurelius: Meditations(Unabridged) Edited by William Kaufman. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 99 pages. Publisher: Dover Publications. Inc; 1997) ISBN: ... more048629823X. One of the world’s most famous and influential books. Meditations” by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius(121-180 A.D. incorporates the stoic percepts he used to cope with his life as a warrior and administrator of an empire. Ascending to the imperial throne in 161 AD, Aurelius found his reign beset by natural disasters and war. In the wake of these challenges, he set down a series of private reflections, outlining a philosophy of commitment to virtue above pleasure and tranquility above happiness. Reflecting the emperor’s own noble and self-sacrificing code of conduct. This eloquent and moving work draws and enriches the tradition of Stoicism, which stressed the search for inner peace and ethical certainty in an apparently chaotic world. Serenity was to be achieved by emulating in one’s personal conduct the underlying orderliness and lawfulness of nature. And in the face of the inevitable pain, loss, and death; the suffering at the core of life, Aurelius counsels stoic detachment from the things that are beyond one’s control, and a focus on one’s own will and perception. Presented here in a specially modernized version of this classic George Long translation. This updated and revised edition is easily accessible to contemporary readers. It not only provides a fascinating glimpse into the mind and personality of a highly principled Roman of the second century, but also offers today’s readers a practical and inspirational guide to the challenges of everyday life. CONDITION: New. Never read. PLEASE SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR SAMPLE PAGES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. PLEASE SEE PUBLISHER. PROFESSIONAL, AND READER REVIEWS BELOW. PUBLISHER REVIEW: REVIEW: Marcus Aurelius reigned from 161 AD to 180 AD. And was perhaps the only true philosopher-king in the history of the world. In his“Meditations” a series of notes to himself, he formulated his pantheist Stoic bel

The Roman masks, like the Greek masks that they emulated, were used for many reasons: The masks were large and portrayed exaggerated expressions which could be seen from the back of the theatre so the audience could tell how the character was feeling The Mask amplified the actor’s voice. Making it possible to hear him everywhere in the theatre ... moreThe mask easily conveyed emotions to the audience so they knew if a character was happy. Click Here. Double your traffic. Get Vendio Gallery- Now FREE! Up for auction is a lot of 100 uncleaned authentic ancient roman fibulae brooches discovered by metal detectorists within the Balkan region of Europe. The dates for each of these artifacts can be determined by style. As much like clothing accessories of today they continually went out of fashion. LOT#37 Cleaning is pretty straight forward with fibulae brooches. For most examples. I recommend either soaks in olive oil or soapy water followed by brushing with a nylon brush. For harder dirt, you can use a sharp pin point to pick away the deposits. Remember to never try scratch the fibulae or expose the bare meal as an oxidation layer is essential to protect the artifact(know as a patina) this lay is usually black or green. What is a Fibula brooch? A Fibula(Latin"to fasten" ... moreis an ancient brooch. Technically. The Latin term fibulae refers specifically to Roman brooches, however, the term is widely used to refer to brooches from the entire ancient and early medieval world. Unlike modern brooches, fibulae were not only decorative, they originally served a practical function: to fasten clothes, including cloaks. Fibulae replaced straight pins that were used to fasten clothing in the Neolithic period and Bronze Age. In turn, fibulae were replaced as clothing fasteners in the Middle Ages by buttons. Their descendant, the modern safety-pin, remains in use today. There are hundreds of different types and variations of fibulae. They are usually divided into families or groups based on historical period. Geography and/or cultural grouping. Fibulae are also divided into classes based on their general forms. The shipping is $18 and consists of bubble wrap and a bubble wrap lined envelope through International Air with a three to ten working day delivery target. If the actual price is less than that charged. I will refund the balance.

This glass bead shows a beautiful original patina and wear. Expected corrosion and wear are a consequence of age and extended burial. Good condition for this age* PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR FAVORITES LIST* Hi! My name is Elena. I’m collecting ancient beads from 1979. Most of my beads were found in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. To be precise they were found between Mary city(Turkmenistan) and Samarkand(Uzbekistan) That area in past was called Bactria. Nowadays there are a lot of ruins older than 2000 years in this ... moreregion. I like ancient beads very much and want that other collectors will be able to obtain them without paying a lot of money. That is why my prices are very modest. I lived in Asgabat city(the capital of Turkmenistan) over 30 years. About 15 km from Asgabat there is Nisa– former residence of Alexander the Great. And capital of Parthia. In most cases the ancient beads. Not only played the role of jewelry but also the status of the person wearing them. You were able to tell the social status of an individual based on the beads they were wearing, while other used these beads as talismans protecting themselves against bad luck and the evil eye. Certain beads that have zigzagging lines are supposed to confuse the evil eye which would get lost in these lines. Beads that have the image of an eye try to just absorb the evil energy, and thus protect the person who is wearing them. Periodically the beads would be washed in salt water, because it is believe the salt water kills the negative energy. The image of the eye was sometimes very abstract and was more like an image of a flower, however sometimes the beads would correctly reflect the wearers eyes, including the co
FORVM Roman Greece Barbotine Ware 5 1/2" Amphora 2nd Cent AD RARE
Roman Greece. Barbotine Ware Amphora, 2nd Century A.D. We are pleased to offer Alex G. Malloy's personal collection of Roman antiquities. Mr. Malloy. Now retired but consulting for Forum, was a dealer in antiquities for 40 years. We hope you find a few nice pieces here to enhance your collection. From the collection of Alex G. Malloy. Former dealer in antiquities for 40 years. Barbotine is French for a ceramic slip. A mixture of clay and water used for decorating pottery. In English the term is used for two different techniques but here we are only concerned with the technique used in the ancient world. Barbotine is piped onto the object much like cakes are decorated with icing, using a quill, horn, or another kind of nozzle. The slip is often a color contrasting with rest of the vessel and forms a design, a pattern, or inscription, that ... moreis raised above the main surface. The Egyptians used barbotine decorative designs. Specimens have also been found at Minoan Knossos on the island of Crete. This example was found near Corinth. The style is certainly related to the Egyptian Barbotine ware but it may have been made in mainland Greece. AY36060. references: Barbotine ware amphora. Ancient Roman Pottery Bowl II-Earthenware-Roman Empire-100-200 AD!
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS Artifacts. Antiques& Fine Collectables Ancient Roman Empire Pottery Earthenware Bowl II Roman Empire c. 100- 200 AD Original. Authentic, and Extremely RARE! This ancient Earthenware Bowl dates to the Roman Empire and is from my personal collection. It is a museum quality example of an ancient Roman terracotta bowl that would have been used in daily life or to hold offerings to the Gods or as ritual tomb object that would hold offerings to the Gods. This 100% original and authentic bowl dates to the Roman Empire circa 100-200 AD and was unearthened in Northern Italy. I purchased it in the late 1960s from a museum that had decommissioned it. This unglazed earthenware bowl measures approximately 3.0" in diameter x 2.5" tall(76 mm x 63 mm) and weighs just 3.2 oz. or 92 grams. The bowl has a footed base that ... morecan be best seen in photo# 6. This is a unique piece of ancient pottery that you can add to your collection. It is truely Museum quality and is Extremely RARE! It would also make a super Gift! Condition: This fired earthenware bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It is solid with no cracks or repairs. It does have one small chip on the side of the bowl that you can see best in photo# 3. It still has the original earthen deposits encrusted on its inside and outside-as would be expected for an item that was buried for 2.000 years. This natural process does not affect the solid integrity or beauty of the ancient bowl, in fact, they help to date this artifact as an authentic piece of fine pottery that is very, very old! I have examined this piece under 10x magnification and it shows no signs of modern tool marks-only human hands worked the clay to make this ancient bowl. I also examined it under Black Light and found no signs of modern repairs. This bowl has not been Oxford Thermoluminescenece(TL) tested to determine its exact age. As that testing cost over $1,200-several times the value of this bowl. But I assure you this ancient bowl is 100% authentic and original and will

Ancient Roman “Evil Eye” Bronze Ring 100 BC-100 AD
About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About the Roman Rings Romans liked to wear big rings which drew attention and revealed the status of the wearer. A gold ring often contained a huge gemstone or Roman glass which was generally worn by the Senators and the bureaucrats. The common people referred as the Plebeians were allowed to wear only rings made of iron. However. Some Plebeians were awarded the right to wear the golden rings for their bravery or special service to the state. But gradually such stringent rules were relaxed during the reign of Justinian I. Women of ancient Rome were more inclined to wear multiple rings of varied materials and designs on their hands without the constraints of social classes. About This Ring This precious Ancient Roman bronze treasure is that of the all essential evil-eye ring. Its band is very thick with the classic protrusive molds at the shoulders. Its bezel is also very thick. Defined at the edges and in the almond shape of an eye. In the middle of this bezel, a carved circle i
