Vintage Gold Metal Turtle Pill Box
This is a beautiful and cute vintage metal pill box. It is gold in color and a heavy metal material. It was made in Taiwan. The turtle's shell opens to reveal a hidden pill box or even a place to store jewelry. It hinges from the side of the shell and the interior measures about half an inch deep. My late grand parents had quite a few items to burn incense& I remember they used little"cones" that they would light and the smoke came out of the holes in the top. Very similar to a"Vantine Pastille Burner" I sold previously. I tried to wipe soot off to get a photo of the words inside the base. HOWEVER I cannot find any makers trademark. Only the words"MADE IN FRANCE 1053" and I am fairly sure it is from the early 1900's based on provenance. My grandmother had to give up her home and move in with her daughter in 1965. And she called it"antique" at that time! ... moreAs IS" because it has a dent on the edge of the lid and finish shows flaws from wear and inside is darkened with soot. The lamp base is a lovely lady, super features, made of either cast iron or a heavy type cast metal substance, painted an antique white, standing on a very decorative ornate base. The very top has a predrilled hole as well as under the bottom part of her dress in the back where wiring can be inserted. Measures overall 18 3/4"in. tall, the lady alone is 13 1/2"in. tall to the top of her hand, and the base is 9"in. wide and 8"in. deep. EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION. Designers biography Was one of Denmarks greatest designers. Born in Greenland. He moved to Denmark as a ten-year-old and studied five years at the Sorø Akademy, after which he learned to become a decorative sculptor. He studied at several art schools in Copenhagen and was also educated in Germany and Italy. Thanks to his wife Alba, Just was introduced to the craftsman Morgens Ballin(1871-1914) for whom his wife worked for as a trained chaser. Just and Alba started to produce metal works ... moretogether and founded the silversmith firm Just Andersen 1918. The firm transformed to an Incorporated Company 1929. Just Andersen produced silver and gold jewelry throughout his life and also designed jewelry for other firms such as A. Michelsen and P. This circa1850 double-handled serving basin is a classic design. With handles featuring a small flowerhead motif. The bottom carries three identical touchmarks– ovals surrounding the archangel Michael. Holding a sword in his right hand and scales in his left, with a stag at his feet. Text reads: M. ERNST ENGLISCH BLOCKZINN. The engraved script initials‘AKS’ also appear. The item is in good antique condition with some interior pitting and inside surface wear. But it is a good, solid piece. NICE French Metal Hand Mirror with Signed Painting on Ivory Insert
Up for bid is a lovely. Delicate, highly ornate and likely French- though unmarked- gold gilded metal hand mirror. The metal work features a top that sports center wreath flanked by ribbon-like decoration. At the bottom of the rounded portion sits another wreath with addition"ribboning" On both sides of the mirror, the bottom on the handle features more decorative elements and the insert is surrounded by clear glass( beads of which I count 5 that are missing which could be easily found and replaced, if desired. The ivory features a delicately painted, gray-hair lady in period outfit and with pink and blue flowers in her hair. It is signed at the bottom near the bustline though I cannot make out the name. Other than the missing"beads mentioned, I'll note mirror glazing that is missing in spots and is readily seen in the ... morepicture. Though not marked anywhere that I can find, this has all the typical bells and whistles found on old, original French pieces. It could use a good cleaning but you are buying it as I received it. I truly don't want to disturb the pretty patina on this piece. It is just under 9 inches tall and is just under 4" inches wide at its widest points(metal to metal) The ivory insert is approximately 2" in diameter. This piece shouldn't be missed as the pictures don't do it justice. This is a lovely piece and would grace any ladies' accessory collection and would beautiful on a vanity on its own. Bronze Statue of Roman Chariot& Warrior with Horses. The helmeted warrior is holding a shield in one hand and a dagger in the other. One may spin the wheels and raise the horses from behind almost 90 degrees. The dimensions are approximately 9" x 3 1/2" x 5 3/16" And the statue weighs about 1.7 lbs. Notice the prominent red color on the tip of the dagger. On the top of the helmet, on the shield and on the warrior's kilt or short toga. Also, please note the intricate design on the wheels. This is a Pair of Tiffany& Co. Makers Brass Dragon candleholders. The markings on the bottom read: Tiffany& Co. 0416 Makers 8001 M" Each one measures approximately 6 inches tall. 4.75" inches wide( from tip to tip of the wings) and approximately 8 inches long. They are very heavy and solid. I don't know when they were made. But they definitely look old. It seems that they have been polished. Beautiful antique copper warning pan with brass fittings. Copper rivets and screw. Engraved top. 43" long. 10.5" across, 3.5" deep. Weight is 4 lb. Very nice condition with a few dings appropriate to its age! A bed warmer(a.k.a warming pan) was a common household item in countries with cold winters. The pan would be filled with hot coals and placed inside the bed. They were replaced by hot water bottles with the invention of rubber. Sold As-Is.
