Roman Bronze Hair Pin God's Head Terminal and Earrings with Stones Set
Roman Bronze Hair Pin God's Head Terminal and Earrings with Stones Set weight: 47 grams measures hair pin: 123 mm/ 15 mm measures earrings: 45 mm/ 22 mm The history of the Roman world is an epic story which stretches out over the course of more than two millennia- the story of an small group of villages which went on to dominate a major part of the western world and was to substantially define its culture. It is obviously impossible to summarize the entire history within a few lines. However. Most chronologies distinguish between the following phases: Origins and Roman Monarchy(753- 509 B.C. A somewhat less familiar period, at the end of which Roman territory was only one small area, Latium, which remained threatened on all sides by Italic and Etruscan peoples. The Roman Republic(509- 27 B.C. paved the way for the institutions. Administration ... moreand organizational structures that were to sustain the force of Rome. By 264 B.C. Rome controlled the entire Italian peninsula. Its ambition would then be to dominate the Mediterranean. Following the destruction of Carthage in 146, this was achieved for the western part. Macedonia, allied with Carthage, was then defeated, and Greece was“liberated” from the Macedonians in 194. Rome occupied what is today the Turkish coastline. Julius Caesar was at the origin of the change which, within a few years(49-29 B.C. would change the Roman institutions into an empire which covered almost the whole of the Mediterranean shores, plus Gaul and present day Spain. The Roman Empire(27 B.C. 476 A.D. increased the grasp of Rome on the Western world even more so. However signs of crisis increase from 250 A.D. onwards. With the rise of new peoples who threaten the borders of the Roman empire. Within the empire, Christianity progresses and the Emperor Constantine converts to it in 324. In 395, Theodosius shares the empire between his two sons. The Western Empire fell in 476, whereas the Byzantine Empire remained, with many trials and tribulations until 1453. However things are

Roman Bronze Earrings with Stones and Bronze Snake Ring Set
Roman Bronze Earrings with Stones and Bronze Snake Ring Set measures: 57 mm/ 20 mm inside dia: 22 mm weight: 23 gm The Roman Empire was the post-Republican period of the ancient Roman civilization. Characterised by an autocratic form of government and large territorial holdings in Europe and around the Mediterranean. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus. The 500-year-old Roman Republic, which preceded it, had been weakened and subverted through several civil wars. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days ... moreof the Republic, but the empire reached its greatest extent under Emperor Trajan: during his reign the Roman Empire controlled approximately 6.5 million km2 of land surface. Because of the Empire's vast extent and long endurance, the institutions and culture of Rome had a profound and lasting influence on the development of language, religion, architecture, philosophy, law, and forms of government in the territory it governed, particularly Europe, and by means of European expansionism throughout the modern world. In the late 3rd century AD, Diocletian established the practice of dividing authority between four co-emperors, in order to better secure the vast territory, putting an end to the Crisis of the Third Century. During the following decades the empire was often divided along an East/West axis. After the death of Theodosius I in 395 it was divided for the last time.8] The Western Roman Empire collapsed in 476 as Romulus Augustus was forced to abdicate by Odoacer. The Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire ended in 1453 with the death of Constantine XI and the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks led by Mehmed II. Bid confidently! YOU ARE BIDDING ON THE ITEM PICTURED! The founding of Rome goes back to the very early days of civilization. It is so old. It is today known as'the eternal city' The Romans believed that their city was founded in the year 753 BC. Modern historians though believe it was the year 625 BC. Early Rome was governed by kings, but after only seven of them had ruled, the Romans took power over their own city and ruled themselves. They then instead had a council known as the'senate' which ruled over them. From this point on one speaks of the'Roman Republic'The word'Republic' itself comes from the Latin(the language ... moreof the Romans) words'res publica' which mean'public matters' or'matters of state' The senate under the kings had only been there to advise the king. Now the senate appointed a consul, who ruled Rome like a king, but only for one year. This was a wise idea, as like that, the consul ruled carefully and not as a tyrant, for he knew that otherwise he could be punished by the next consul, once his year was up.Rome knew four classes of people. This division was very important to the Romans. The lowest class were the slaves. They were owned by other people. They had no rights at all. The next class were the plebeians. They were free people. But they had little say at all. The second highest class were the equestrians(sometimes they are called the'knights' Their name means the'riders' as they were given a horse to ride if they were called to fight for Rome. To be an equestrian you had to be rich. The highest class were the nobles of Rome. They were called'patricians' All the real power in Rome lay with them. The Roman Republic was a very successful government. It lasted from 510 BC until 23 BC- almost 500 years. The Roman empire in the en

Roman Carnelian (Chalcedony) Stones Restrung To Be Worn or Displayed (#5354)
Our specialty remains. As it has been for more than 35 years, American History. As historians, we cannot help but be enthralled with a wide variety of antiquities, as well as the Americana we know very well. We purchased our first antiquities on a trip to Israel and Greece in 1980 and have continued to purchase a small number of primarily Roman artifacts over the years-coins, household and other items typical of the period. Most of our books and related work have focused primarily on the human aspect of history-how Civil War soldiers lived and fought, how gold miners led isolated lives in hopes of striking it rich and so on. In the purchase of antiquities, we look for the beauty and the history of collectible items-coins, the pocket change carried by those of the era, jewelry worn 2,000 years ago and day-to-day items such as glassware and ... morevases, pins and utensils and so on. This 20-inch strand of beads was restrung from dug artifacts. Often. A clump of stones such as these orange carnelian beads are found with their twine or natural stringing material long decomposed and missing. But the'find' is very clear that the number of beads found together represented a complete necklace. It's no coincidence that today they string to a 20-inch length. On rare occasions archaeologists will actually find the beads buried and laid out exactly as they were lost in time-with the shape looking like a ghost of a strand of beads, only missing what held them together. That is rare but not unheard of. We occasionally hear a complaint from a novice collector who does not want restrung beads. But rather an'original' necklace intact. And we all do! It's quite rare. But again not impossible, to find. If somehow the necklace was preserved away from the natural elements the stringing twine or fabric may not have decomposed; but when one speaks of a"dig" and a site where artifacts are excavated, they mean just that-dug from some two thousand years of earth.dirt and organic material just anxious to rot simi

ROMAN NECKLACE MADE OF CARNELIAN (CHALCEDONY)SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES (#5354)
While our specialty for 35 years has been American History we cannot help but be enthralled with a wide variety of antiquities. As well as the Americana we know very well. We purchased our first antiquities on a trip to Israel and Greece in 1980 and have continued to purchase a small number of primarily Roman artifacts over the years-coins, household and other items typical of the period. the books we've written and the consulting to museums has also been focused on American history-the Civil War, the Klondike Gold rush, baseball and other historical topics-the only history book outside of this continent was the second book we did, based on a find of a young boy's diary in Poland where he and his family AND their entire village were killed in a concentration camp. This 20-inch strand of beads was obviously restrung. As the beautiful ... morestone can survive 2,000 years in the dirt, but not the twine on which they were strung. Naturally collectors favor dug artifacts restrung as they were found. But unfortunately that is rarely the case. Time and the earth sees them moved around and it's lucky to find all of the pieces together-and very rare to find all of the stones in place and the necklace(or bracelet) just as it fell perhaps 2,000 years ago.ago as if strung on an invisible cord. We occasionally hear a complaint from a novice collector who does not want restrung beads, not realizing their twine or fabric would have rotted hundreds and hundreds of years ago. NOTE: Because of the stringent returns policies of ebay we no longer ship out of the US with only one exception: If you contact us first we may choose to ship abroad. If there is a postal problem. Ebay requires the seller to provide a refund and we have experienced too many international deliveries that were lost. In selected cases where we can discuss the shipping and the costs BEFORE a customer bids, we may be able to ship and if we have a history with that client we may also be able to ship. BUT YOU MUST CONTACT US PRIOR TO BIDDING OR BUYING, PLEASE,

Roman Bronze Brooch with Stone and Earrings with Stones Set weight: 30 grams measures: 79 mm/ 29 mm measures: 66 mm/ 20 mm The history of the Roman world is an epic story which stretches out over the course of more than two millennia- the story of an small group of villages which went on to dominate a major part of the western world and was to substantially define its culture. Administration and organizational structures ... morethat were to sustain the force of Rome. However things are not that simple. The rise of
