Sea find with marine encrustation. This amphora is from north africa persent day tunisia and it was mainly use for the transport of garum a fish sause that the ancient roman world exported all around the know world. Ex Maryland/DC collection, acquired in the late 1950's early 1960's. The owner was a diplomat and collected objects on his travels. Hand thrown in unglazed earthenware, but it is certainly attractive as an object in itself.
