GENUINE ROMAN Æ KNEE FIBULA - circa 2nd century AD
A superb knee type genuine Roman bronze fibula. The artefact has been expertly cleaned to reveal it's original lustre. The underside of the artefact has not been cleaned. And retains some of it's original patina. This patina cannot be faked and attests to the artefacts authenticity. This is a genuine Roman artefact See picture for condition. Low start- No reserve Date: circa 2nd century AD Size: length apx 38mm Investing in Ancient Artefacts. Ancient artefacts are finite. Less are being discovered as time passes, and of course at some point in the future there will be no more. The quantity and availability of these ancient historic pieces is ever decreasing as collectors and museums purchase these objects and take them permanently off the market. Consequently, investment in antiquities is rising. Of course there are few of us who ... morecan afford to bid millions on objects like the Guennol Lioness, but, as availability decreases across the whole spectrum of ancient artefacts, investment is proving to be provident and wise, and most of all, for the sheer pleasure of owning a piece of ancient history. Postage costs: £2.50- first class recorded delivery. £6.00- insured delivery. £7.50 international signed for(Due to several items in the last 12 months apparently being lost in the post. beautiful decorated roman bronze knee fibula with high catch bow ca. 100-300AD
The Roman Empire was the post-Republican phase of the ancient Roman civilization. Characterised by an autocratic form of government and large territorial holdings in Europe and around the Mediterranean. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus. The 500-year-old Roman Republic. Which preceded it, had been weakened and subverted through several civil wars. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days of the Republic, but reached its zenith under Emperor Trajan. At this territorial peak, the Roman Empire controlled ... moreapproximately 6.5 million km² of land surface. Because of the Empire's vast extent and long endurance, the institutions and culture of Rome had a profound and lasting influence on the development of language, religion, architecture, philosophy, law, and forms of government in the territory it governed, particularly Europe, and by means of European expansionism throughout the modern world. Period: roman Typ: beautiful decorated bronce knee fibula with original spring and rest of needle. Rare Typ with high catch bow gorgeous patina. Ancient Roman Bronze "Knee Style" Fibula 1,800 Years Old-w/ COA. RARE!
Houghton USA Ancient Art. Antiques, Fine Collectables Ancient Roman Bronze Fibula from Dacia-Romania c. 100-256 AD Approximately 1.800 Years Old! This Roman Bronze Fibula was used in ancient Rome as a clothing clasp to secure tunics or cloaks on a person's body. It would have been used by both men and women. Some were made of gold or silver(if you were rich) But most were cast in bronze-like this one. This is a fine example with the fastening pin still in tack-many examples have this pin broken. Specifically. It is called a" knee-style" Fibula and measures 1.7" long x.56" tall. It was found on the site of an ancient Roman settlement called Dacia. Which is in present day Romania. Darcia became a Roman province in the early 1st Century AD and had many forts to protect the miners who found and processed gold ore. The ... moreRomans were mostly ousted in 256 AD, so this Fibula had to date before then. It was made by an ancient blacksmith during the Golden Age of the Roman Empire about 1.800 years ago. An essential early bronze tool for every man or woman or child to have. Very Stylish at Toga Parties! Look carefully at the top(see photo# 3& 6) and you can see the unique pattern of this stylish Fibula. Because of its small size, I would suggest it was for a woman or child. This Fibula was buried for almost 1.800 years, but it is in excellent condition. Great addition to your Roman collection. Please see attached photos. As there is a US nickel in the photo to help you judge the size. This Bronze Fibula comes with a COA dated August 1. 2008(see photo# 6) I have carefully examined this ROMAN Fibula under 80x magnification and I GUARANTEE it authentic or your money back! Please examine the photos taken at 4x macro carefully as they are part of the description. The plastic stand and nickel are not part of the auction. Just there to give you a perspective. And please ask any questions before you buy. I offer a full Money-Back Guarantee if a recognized authority disputes the authenticity of this object.
