A very rare. Huge, genuine Roman bronze military/cavalry phalera decoration. This is the first phalera of this size that we have acquired that is complete and unbroken, as you can see from picture 2 all the lugs/loops are still intact on the reverse. Far too rare an artefact to polish to its original lustre, we have cleaned away debris revealing a glossy patina and the remains of some silvering. A rare genuine Roman bronze ring with Lituus design on the bezel. The lituus was used as a symbol of office for the college of the augurs which marked them out as a priestly group. The ring has been expertly cleaned to reveal it's original lustre. The inside of the ring has not been cleaned. And retains it's original patina.
