This is a classic roman era/ bronze age ring purchased in the near east in the late 19th century by the collector who traveled and collected extensively in the areas of Iran. Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Glass was rare and greatly valued. The bronze age in the near east was between 3000-1200BCE.
