ROMAN BRONZE HERM- 2nd or 3rd Century AD - RARE - Bargain Priced EX-HARLAN BERK
ROMAN BRONZE HERM, 2ND TO 3RD CENTURY AD Ex-Harlan J. Berk and Co. RARE. ESPECIALLY AT THIS PRICE PLEASE NOTE: Because Ebay displays descriptions on another website nowadays. The internal links below only work if you right-click on one, such as"About the Item, and then select"Open in New Tab. About the Photos: Well. These non-coin antiquities are easier to photograph than ancient coins, but they're not always that easy to photograph. And this amazing work of very old Roman bronze is a good example of the kind of photo I've been having trouble with lately. The headliner photo is pretty good. But I barely managed, with the somewhat primitive camera setup I used, to keep it all in focus; unfortunately, the headliner photo came out a bit fuzzy, but for this 2014 listing, I was able to edit it into a new version that manages ... moreto come very close to how this lovely little herm really looks in hand. The second photo. The four-plex, is composed of four views from photographs originally provided by the good folks at Harlan J. Berk& Company when i bought this wonderful little antiquity, about ten years ago. Unfortunately, Berk's photos leave a few things to be desired for accuracy. For one thing, for some reason they don't show the little display stand the herm is currently mounted upon, which you can see in my headliner photo. I consider that an important part of the item(but, if the winning bidder wants to remove the stand, that of course could be done easily enough. For another thing. The Berk photos just aren't quite as sharp for detail as I would like. Pretty close, but not quite there- then again, it's really tough to capture the clarity of detail one would really like when photographing any small object, as you surely know if you've tried it. But worse than that. The tone in the Berk photos is just plain wrong, and these contain a few little"photo artifacts" that just don't belong there: in hand, the background tone, the bare metal itself, is(under normal to brig
