Matheus(the elder) died in 1650. The time when this map was published. It is guaranteed genuine, with centrefold as issued, and platemark visible around the printed area. The siege. Occasioned by the Dutch losing possession of the town, lasted 9 months after which Frederick Henry(the Dutch Stadtholder) managed to regain possession from the invading Spanish army and Ferdinand of Austria. This is a most attractive map with a panoramic vignette of the town. Lovely handcolouring(original? a key(translated into English on the back of the supporting card) and groups of figures, reminiscent of those found in the slightly earlier plans of Braun and Hogenberg. Size: ... moreThe sheet is approx. 38cms x 32cms. The printed area 35cms x 26.5cms. Condition: In good condition.With slight wear to centrefold as expected. Faint evidence of damp around margins but nothing to detract The map is taped to the green mount. I shall leave it there and send the item flat-packed. Guaranteed original, showing a little wear, but eminently presentable as it is, with lovely original handcolouring. Dated 1821 in the imprint at the bottom, and with plenty of detail(at nearly 4" to 1 mile) not least the bridges(there were 5 of them at this time) which are shown in profile(see photos) Size: Folded 36cms x 11.5cms. Opening out to 63.5cms x 46cms. Condition: A folding map mounted on linen. Some wear at the folds. With splits(a noticeable one in the centre) and small holes at the meeting points. Discoloured and a little stained, but with lovely original colour. Very stained on the back with old ink numbers, but none of this ... moreaffecting the front. So an old item with some wear, but it would look splendid if, for example, framed as it is. Sold without a slipcase. I will post worldwide. Starting at the ridiculous 0.99p. Antique Map Iceland by Willem Bleau Hand Colored Copper Engraving 17th Century
Here is a beautiful antique map by Willem Bleau[Tabula Islandiae Auctore Georgio Carolo Flandro] From[Theatrum Orbis terrerum, sive, Atlas Novus] published by Willem and Johannes Blaeu, Amsterdam, hand-colored copper engraving on laid paper, mid 17th century. Fair condition, unframed, paper has some discoloration and chipping on the edges, as well as a couple small holes in the bottom border. There is also a 1" long slit in the paper on the right side stemming from where there is some chipping(it looks like someone started to make a crooked cut in this edge some time ago) Some pencil writing on the back. There is a 3/8" strip of old masking tape on the back that runs the length of the top of the map and 4" down each side. This tape was used to mount this map to the old matte. Measures 17" x 22 1/2" This is a double ... morepage engraving removed from a book so there is an impression/creases down the center where it was formerly bent within the pages of the book. This auction is for the actual item(s) as pictured. I find all of my items at estate sales. Antique stores, and flea markets. 1743 Map of Bavaria Here is an original 1743 engraving of the surrounding area of Munich Germany. It was published in Nuremburg. Germany by the Homann Heirs. Copper-engraving. Hand colored in wash and outlined. Its overall measurement is 24" wide by 21" high. I recently had this map appraised as authentic by Swann Galleries and its auction value is $600-$800. It is in very good condition with no restoration. Marks, tears or folds. Being from an atlas it has a center fold line which has no breaks or splits. There is light foxing which can be seen in the photos. I show the back side to see the paper condition as well as to help verify its authenticity. Note that the stain is an etch through of just the green color as a result of the chemical used for green during that era. Feel free to ask questions. Abraham Ortelius Map of British Isles from old Atlas. Map consist of two pages of the atlas and both pages together measures16 1/2" high x 21 1/2" wide. Hand colored copper engraving. This old map was in a frame for many years. Which we removed it from. We believe this to be 100% authentic. We can feel the indentation the copper plate left. Paper looks to be in very good condition and there are no rips or tears. There is staining on the back pages that appear to bee from the coloring of the map side.
