A very attractive. Copper-engraved, original antique map entitled'The Smaller Islands in the British Ocean' by Robert Morden and published in Camden's Britannia in 1772. It includes 8 seperate maps of The Isle of Wight. The Farne Islands, Holy Island, The Isle of Man, The Scilly Isles, Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney. The printed area measures approx 415mm x 355mm with good sized margins beyond and includes significant detail of place-names, roads and terrain. Each map includes a scale of distance and there is an attractive decorative title cartouche which included the names of the printers, Swale, Awnsham and Churchill. The map is uncoloured as published and is blank verso. Morden's maps from the 1772 edition of Britannia are highly collectable and are noteworthy for the high quality paper on which they are printed and for ... morethe clear printing inpression which is not always evident in some of the earlier editions. The map is in excellent condition with a very clear impression and very light overall toning as is normal. It would display beautifully if mounted and framed. Check out my! Powered by
