Maps and Atlases in London from roughly 1838 to 1851. The principal works, expanding upon the earlier works of Cary and Arrowsmith, include an 1838 collection of London Street Views and the 1849 Illustrated Atlas of the World. His principle engraver was John Rapkin, whose name and decorative vignettes appear on most Tallis& Co. maps. Due to the decorative style of Rapkin's work, many regard Tallis maps as the last bastion of English decorative cartography in the 19th century. Though most Tallis maps were originally issued uncolored, it was not uncommon for 19th century libraries to commission colorists to"complete" the atlas. The London Printing and publishing Company of London and New York bought the rights for many Tallis maps in 1850 and continued Publishing his Illustrated Atlas of the World until the mid 1850s. Specific Tallis maps later appeared in innumerable mid to late 19th century publications as illustrations and appendices. 0 0 1 144 827 Old Times 6 1 970 14.0 Normal 0 14 false false false IT JA X-NONE View My Feedback View My Other Items For Sale Visit my eBay Store All of the maps we sell are ORIGINALS. Jewish WW2 Holocaust Tefillin, Tallit, Tallis Ghetto Concentration Camp Judaica
Click on an image to enlarge it. These rare items I got from a buyer of an estate of a deceased person who went through the Holocaust. Unfortunately the only details I was told are that the deceased was in a Ghetto or Concentration Camp in Poland during World War 2. I do not have exact dates or places or any other details. The items are exactly as seen in the photo's above and contain a Tallit(with its bag) and 3 Tefillin boxes(one open/worn) with their leather straps. There are also 3 parchments. The Tallit(without the tziziot) measures approx. 47x40 inches(120x100cms) Please view the many photo's that I took to evaluate their condition. I didn't attempt to clean/amend/repair the items but left them exactly as I got them. In any case. Wherever their origin is, these are very unique and rare Jewish History/Judaica items and I ... morewould like them to be held by appreciative hands.

Beautiful Star Of David Tallit Tallis Clips Comes in a lovley red velvet box 3 x 3 cm Pretty accent to complete the look of the tallit Imported from Israel.Made out of sturdy Material to ensure durability The Symbolic Meaning of Star of David There are many symbolic meanings attached to the Star of David. The triangle within the star that points upwards is a symbol of good deeds that reach the heaven and attract goodness to the world. This attraction of goodness is symbolized by the downward pointing triangle. Some Kabbalists say. The six points represent the absolute rule of God over the universe in all directions. The north, south, east, west, up and down are all under one God's rule. It may also symbolize the dual nature of good and evil and should be used to protect one against evil spirit. The other meaning of the Star of David indicates ... morethat the overlapping stars represent the relationship between God and Jews. The star pointing upwards represents God and the star pointing downwards represents people on earth. The six sides and the center represents the six working days and hexagon at the center represents Sabbath. It may also mean the twelve sides on the triangle that represent the Twelve Tribes.

A nice impression of an interesting antique map which will look nice when displayed. Sheet measures c. 14 1/4" H x 10 5/8" W. Printed area measures ... morec. 12 3/8" H x 9" W. Original fold line as issued. 35616] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. Please look carefully and make your decision knowing this antique image is nice. But it is not in perfect"like new" condition. However, with whatever flaws it possesses, it remains entirely worthy of ownership and inclusion in any related collection. We feel it will prove very pleasing to its new owner. Antique Tallis/Rapkin Map c. 1851 - Venezuela, New Granada - hand colored/framed
Antique Tallis/Rapkin Map c. 1851- Venezuela. New Granada" hand colored/framed For collectors of antique maps- this is a beauty! We have a framed under glass hand colored map of"Venezuela. New Granada, Equador, and The Guayanas" published circa 1851 by the noted English cartographer John Tallis(1815-1876) Though not specifically dated. It is easy to date the print- John Tallis& Company" was in business by that name only from 1851-1854. And, New Granada ceased to exist after 1858- the region being renamed in that year after a series of political squabbles, eventually becoming the present day nations of Columbia and Panama, among others. The print itself is beautifully detailed with small vignettes of landscapes found in the region depicted. Including the Port of Paramaribo(at the time in Dutch Guayana) the"Fall ... moreof the Bagota" and"Chimborazo" The map is signed"John Tallis& Company. London& New York" The Illustrations by H. Winkles, Engraved by W. Lacey" and"The Map Drawn& Engraved by J. Rapkin" It is framed under glass. Though it is likely not the original framing, nor is it archival. Overall dimensions of the frame are approx. 15 ¼" x 11 ½" The print is not matted. And its approx. dimensions are 13 7/8" x 10 ½" Condition is quite good; there are no visible tears or water stains. But given its 160+ age, there is some very minor foxing and from the slight unevenness of the right edge, it may have once been trimmed. There is also a crease in the center of the map. But I think this was once part of a larger atlas. The coloring is a bit faded. But that also befits its age. The map remains sealed in its frame under cardboard. But the reverse upper right corner has separated and been scotch taped over. A professional re-framing is recommended. Please email questions before bidding/purchasing. HANDMADE ANTIQUE JEWISH SILK TALLIS TALLIT and BAG CIRCA 1906
Handmade Antique Silk Tallit or Tallis. Circa 1906 with handmade bag Ivory colored silk with blue stripes and ivory knotted tzitzit or fringes on both ends. The blue stripes are dyed indigo and there is some transfer or bleeding of the blue stripes(see our photographs. The Tallis measures 40 inches wide by about 65 inches long. The fringes are about two inches long(that's an additional two inches long on both ends. The edges of the cloth are probably machine finished. But the tallis looks to be handmade with obvious hand stitches. There are two reinforced"buttonholes" at each end of the tallis where it could be tied together. A square of ivory silk about 2.5 inches square has been laid over the original fabric layer on both sides and at each corner with small basting stitches. The center hole is close to a satin stitch. The ... morethread color for this work is a light ecru(while I can't tell you if it was tea dyed. That is a possibility. The edges of this reinforced area are frayed. The tzitzit or fringes are hand knotted and in varying condition. This was a well used item and does have several signs of wear: There is some unravelling to some of the tzitzit and we note about a one inch tear in the fabric just above the fringe at one point on both ends of the garment. The fabric is very thin and we note at least five small areas where there is a small hole or fray in the fabric. The blue dye transfer is only on one end of the tallis. There is an area about 29 inches long by almost 3 inches wide(with another two areas extending to 4.5 inches wide. This is the section that would fit around the neckline. This is made with thin ivory silk and finished with(less than impressive) small basting stitches. There are several small stains on this section. There is also one small waterstain and there may be some other stains consistent with use of the garment. This item came to use from an estate. Its stitching is consistent with some other handmade items which were part of the bride's trousseau in 1906. We bel
