The carvings themselves are an art statement that would likely cost more than the entire sideboard. This is a great collectible piece of oak. The overall size is 54 inches wide, 25 inches deep, 39 inches high to the base and 86 inches high overall. The mirror glass size is 39 inches wide by 17 inches high. There are some specks of white paint on one side where someone must have splattered paint when painting a wall that I am sure would clean up. The sideboard features fabulous inlays in satinwood and boxwood, and rounded side cabinets. The top is plum pudding mahogany with satinwood banding and boxwood inlays. Secondary wood is oak. It is 73" wide by 28" deep by 37" high. The finish is in good condition, old, but not original, and it is slightly sun-bleached. The hardware(not original but very cool) is unusual, being bronzed satyr heads with ring pulls. The locks are all intact but there is no key. 18th century Italian marble top console with paw feet. This console measures 61.25 inches wide at the top and 64.50 inches wide at the front feet. It is 30.25 inches deep and 38 inches high. The bottom shelf curves in to 11.5 inches deep at its center. It is 30.5 inches from the floor to the underside of the top skirt. The original marble is 1.75 inches thick. Solid wormy fruitwood and walnut are well worn and have a rich old finish with warm antique patina. Wrought brass hardware and lift off iron hinges appear original on this imposing rustic furniture from southern France. Three drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. Behind the doors is a later shelf. There are remnants of old wallpaper lining. As is typical, feet were rebuilt many years ago on this historic cabinet. The sideboard would work equally well as a desk with plenty of storage available. The worktop surface offers two drawers, field panelled with edge bead detail around a central frieze. The two pedestals each have a platform top over drawers with field panels edged in bead detail above hinged door. The doors have carved rosette detail to each corner framing highly figured field panels. The doors are flanked with relief carved pilasters terminating in acanthus leaves and standing upon hairy paw feet. Within the left pedestal there is drawer with a brass bale pull beneath open storage. The right pedestal drawer features a cellarette. Straight cut mahogany surrounds the perimeter edge over a conforming case. This was a fine piece when it was made with banded drawers and doors. Bow front, hand cut solid oak dovetailed drawers, solid brass pulls, square tapered legs with string inlay.

Having just been restored by my very experienced restorer(50 years) it is consequently in excellent condition and is ready for immediate use in the home or for retailing in a prestigious showroom or fair. The second thing that strikes you about this buffet is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this buffet chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a buffet with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by mahogany of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this buffet is just right and the buffet benefits from having a good balance. Meaning that it“sits” well with a real“presence” Now we know everything on ebay is“fantastic” glorious” superb” brilliant” magnificent” greatest” resplendent” superior” etc etc but when we say this is a very good buffet we mean it.
