i This photo was took before I polished it(its better now) you can see my safe plate mirrored in the Bakelite! 1950/60s'PRESTO' Bakelite switch in almost perfect condition! Yes it passes all the tests for true Bakelite! Bakelite or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride. Is an early type of plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin. Formed from an elimination reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. It was developed by Belgian-born chemist Leo Baekeland in New York in 1907. One of the first plastics made from synthetic components. Bakelite was used for its electrical nonconductivity and heat-resistant properties in electrical insulators. Radio and telephone casings, and such diverse products as kitchenware. Jewellery. Pipe stems, and children's toys. Bakelite was designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark in 1993 ... moreby the American Chemical Society in recognition of its significance as the world's first synthetic plastic. The" retro" appeal of old Bakelite products has made them collectible. In great working order! Heavy duty 10 amp porcelain switch- ideal for lighting- they were used in a typical 1950's office to switch the lights on(and off) but can be used outdoors- they have a rubber gasket) Designed to be used with 3/4 inch standard conduit that(due to the frogs- decimalisation) is now changed to 22mm- so if you use new conduit an innocuous small adaptor(£1) can easily be obtained from the conduit suppliers. I will look to find my stash and put one in with this) I have only ever seen them at one location- there were four switches in some offices at a n old factory near Sheffield and that's it! Never seen anything like them before or since. They are made from a lovely rich chocolate coloured thick Bakelite. That I have further enhanced by Polishing. VINTAGE ARTHUR GODFREY BAKELITE DELAYED ELECTRICAL LIGHT SWITCH HOLLYWOOD Description: Quite an unusal vintage electrical item. This is a delayed timer wall light switch endorsed by Arthur Godfrey. When you turn the switch off. There is a several minute delay before it switches your light off. According to the advertisment, this would give the user time to get into bed or move out of the room before the lights went of. An interesting concept I must say, too bad it never really caught on making this a pretty rare item. The unit does click several minutes after flipping the switch so I am guessing it still works. I cannot say how reliable these were or are since the item is so old. The packaging is great with Arthurs face printed on it along with the sales pitch! Item packaging is good with no major damage. Collectible H&H Dual Fixture Push Button Light Switch One screw is missing as seen in picture. This switch is very different from others. It's constructed with a rotating brass paddle to operate two different fixtures from the same switch. It was most likely an early attempt to conserve space or materials. This is not a 3 way. Besides it being unique. It operates in a very odd way. If you were to enter the room with two lights off and push the button, it would turn on light A. If you were to hit the button that was now in the out position, it would turn off light A and turn on light B. If you were then to hit the button in the out position, it would turn on light A and leave light B on as well. And then if you were to hit it again, it would turn both off. The Art Company is vague with only a few letters that I can make out even though they are all there. Made of a white pliable rubber material. Comes from an estate sale at a house built in 1855. Vintage. Uniline single gang wall plates, for standard toggle switches. They have never been used and are in fine shape, with a beautiful creamy ivory color. They're pretty neat, and would make a great finishing touch to your mid-century home restoration, or just a cool detail anywhere! These wall plates are new old stock. And probably date from the later 50's or early 60's. They're made by several different manufacturers-the photo shows one by Hubbell, but I have some by H&H, Arrow-Hart, and Pass& Seymour as well. This doesn't make any difference, as they're all made to the same design and are identical. Some still have the plastic wrappers, but they are brittle and tattered, and some are missing the screws(easily replaced at your local hardware store) The plates are still in fine shape, with no scratches, ... morechips, cracks, or discoloration. Turn light Switch white porcelain twist knob nickel old 3 way three wire vintage Working triple pole 3-wire twist switch with a white porcelain"ON/OFF" turn button. A 3-wire switch is very hard to find. Rating stamped on the front 5 A 600v und lab insp. It was made in the USA. and it is patent dated on the back Sept 17. 1912. The white porcelain turn button has an"P" cast into it for PERKINS. I tested the switch with a continuity tester and it tests ok. It works as a 3 wire should. I turned the button quite a few times and the contacts worked every time. It works by twisting the white porcelain knob.
