i This photo was took before I polished it(its better now) you can see my safe plate mirrored in the Bakelite! 1950/60s'PRESTO' Bakelite switch in almost perfect condition! Yes it passes all the tests for true Bakelite! Bakelite or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride. Is an early type of plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin. Formed from an elimination reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. It was developed by Belgian-born chemist Leo Baekeland in New York in 1907. One of the first plastics made from synthetic components. Bakelite was used for its electrical nonconductivity and heat-resistant properties in electrical insulators. Radio and telephone casings, and such diverse products as kitchenware. Jewellery. Pipe stems, and children's toys. Bakelite was designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark in 1993 ... moreby the American Chemical Society in recognition of its significance as the world's first synthetic plastic. The" retro" appeal of old Bakelite products has made them collectible. In great working order! Heavy duty 10 amp porcelain switch- ideal for lighting- they were used in a typical 1950's office to switch the lights on(and off) but can be used outdoors- they have a rubber gasket) Designed to be used with 3/4 inch standard conduit that(due to the frogs- decimalisation) is now changed to 22mm- so if you use new conduit an innocuous small adaptor(£1) can easily be obtained from the conduit suppliers. I will look to find my stash and put one in with this) I have only ever seen them at one location- there were four switches in some offices at a n old factory near Sheffield and that's it! Never seen anything like them before or since. They are made from a lovely rich chocolate coloured thick Bakelite. That I have further enhanced by Polishing. The switch mechanism is a rotary one that turns through 360 degrees either way and so cannot be forced past any stops- so no danger of breakage, it has a nice defined'clunk' Most of the switches I am sell

32 Vintage Antique Brass Bronze TRIDENT WATER METER COVERS Industrial Steampunk
This lot consists of 32 turn of the century Neptune Water Meter Covers. I read 190? under 1 lid. Most are solid brass but several test out to be Bronze with some reverse polorization with a magnet. The have hinged lids and the bottoms are 3 1/8: diameter. I took a quick look. Some put wood bottoms for trinket boxes,another put paperweight but I'm sure someone with a little imagination could do many things with them. They vary a little in styles, some have numbers on the outside and some do not. I did notice one was quite a bit different with Paris on the front. For those who care about origin, they were salvaged from the town of Newton NJ. If you enlarge all my photos you should have a pretty good look. Also major savings on shipping if you can use these. Vintage Brass Industrial Era Information Frame Cover Plate Elevator Factory
This is an excellent early 20th Century brass frame for information that was associated with an Otis elevator control panel- originally installed in an automotive factory. No noticeable scratches or flaws.just the aging of the metal one would expect. It has paint on it as you see in the photo. Total height is 8.25" and width is 2.5" The mounting holes appear to be on 6-7/8" centers.
