Vintage GE Sphinx mercury light switches, 15 amp, NOS, brown
Original 15 amp G.E. Sphinx single-pole mercury switches. Still in the original boxes. Mercury switches were popular from the 50's until the 70's and were meant to provide a smooth, silent action, with no click or noise. These were probably made sometime in the late 50's or early 60's, and are all original with brown toggles, and include screws and instructions. The boxes are plain blue, and are mostly in nice shape. This unique design plate was made by Monowatt before they were taken over by General Electric. These plates came with Brown Pan head screws. But they will also accept(recessed) flat head screws. The side pieces of these plates can be broken off at arrows to create your own Double& Triple gang combinations(hence the first"sectional" plates1) The Monowatt cardboard display package& 1 of 2 screws have been lost.

Four Vintage Brass GE Push Button Switch Covers with Boxes
These are four(4) unused brass switch covers being offered without any reserve. The plates come with their original boxes. One of them had been opened and was missing its tissue paper. The other three I opened in order to show the condition of the plates and those three were in their tissue paper and had the bag of screws; they had never been opened before. I added a close up photo of the worst box and plate and the best looking box and plate. They are standard size of 2 ¾ by 4 ½ inches. Mounting holes are 2 ¼ inches on center; push holes are ½ inch diameter. Return will be accepted if the plates are not as described. Shipping in all 50 states in the US will be free. GE light Switch single pole twist knob porcelain vintage tested 3 ½” dia plate Great old double pole 2-wire twist switch with a bakelite turn button. There are no cracks in the porcelain. The nickel has characteristically aged and tarnished from use. It was made in the USA. The black turn button has GE name cast into it. I tested the switch with a continuity tester and it tests ok. I turned the button quite a few times and the contact work as they should. It works by twisting. You stop when the contacts make contact to keep the circuit complete and twist again to turn it off. It is 2" in diameter. The steel back plate is 3 1/2" in diameter. Offered for auction is this lot of 8 vintage brass light switch plates and an outlet cover. 5 say Made in USA 040 Thick and have the GE symbol. One has the writing but I can't see the GE symbol. One of the double plate covers says UL in a circle. M inside another M, and SA in a partial circle. I can't find any writing on the triple switch plate cover. All are beveled and seem to be structurally sound. That is, I see no chips or cracks. All need cleaning, polishing, or some kind of restoring. Some of the photos are with flash.
