RARE ANTIQUE VTG 1880's VICTORIAN DOORBELL IN A DOOR KNOB COMBINATION BELL SET
VERY SCARCE* RARE ANTIQUE VTG 1880's VICTORIAN DOORBELL IN A DOOR KNOB COMBINATION SET This offering is for a rare antique door knob doorbell set made of steel and nickel plated brass in excellent working condition. The set is rare enough being a doorbell door knob combination. However this example is highly unusual in that the bell mechanism is activated by a twist action, rather than a push pull button as on most you will see. The exterior knob containing the twist button is made of steel with a molded decoration in high relief. The knob is unfinished bare metal with a dark surface patina including a bit of very minor surface rust. The interior knob is the bell mechanism and is made of nickel plated brass and steel. I am unsure of the maker of the knobs as there are no makers markings or dates but I would think they were made in the ... morelate 19th century, about the 1880's. The exterior knob is a standard size 2¼" in diameter and the interior knob is app. 2½" in diameter and the overall length including the twist button is app. 7 1/8" As mentioned the knobs are uncleaned and as found with an excellent surface patina. The only flaw worth mentioning is that the set screw for the exterior knob is missing. This great vintage pair of door knobs displays beautifully and definitely rate as one of the more unusual Victorian door knob sets produced. This great antique door knob pair will make an excellent addition to someone's collection, shouldn't it be yours! New York, probably about a century ago. A long-time antiques dealer in my area bought up the overstock from the widow of the owner a number of decades ago, and they have just now once again come to light. The doorknobs are unfinished in that the mold pontil on the surface of the knobs was never ground down(I tried to give you an image of this in the side view of the two knobs) So most of the knobs have a protrusion to one extent or another in the middle of the front face. These are the type of knobs that were made to have a metal handle of some sort pressed into the opening on the back side of the knob, so will probably be best put to some use other than as a door knob(unless ... moreyou have a supply of vintage metal handles and the knowhow to press the parts together; as well as means to grind the pontil off) I'm sure some of you will think of a creative use for them! I have quite a number of these, so if you are interested in volume, I can combine shipment for some savings on postage(wait for my invoice so I can adjust the postage charge if you buy more than one lot) As of October 9, I'm reducing my asking price from $20.95 to $17.95 for a lot of 6- that's just about $3.00 apiece. This antique mortise lock set is in the Aesthetic style. The back plates are 5.25' x 1.75' The plates are steel. The knobs are black porcelain. The only marked part is the box which is marked Skilman. The plates are bare steel with no finish. The box comes with a functional key. The lock faceplate is 7/8' x 5 1/2' The box may be opened and the catch bolt can be reversed for doors that swing the other way. The spindle also comes with the set screws, everything shown in the first photo is included. Circa 1890 or earlier, a nice antique set. If there are questions please ask them early. Antique Octagonal Milk Glass Door Knob
Antique octagonal milk glass door knob. This is an excellent example of the type. There are no scratches on the glass and absolutely no chips or cracks. The nickel plating in great condition for its age but does show a little wear as noted in the photos. It was previously painted. But the paint has been carefully removed. The knob is firmly anchored to the base with no slack or looseness whatsoever. The internal threads are clean. I unfortunately do not have the original screw, but the threads are common and can be replaced easily from any hardware store. There are a couple dots of that green paint on the knob near the neck. White spots in the pictures are just camera glare. ANTIQUE GLASS AND BRASS DOORKNOB. WITH BRASS AND STEEL HARDWARE. This old set of glass doorknobs is about 2 and 1/8 inches in diameter. The brass door plates are about 2 inches in diameter. A 1/4 inch square steel rod connects the two doorknobs. This set of glass doorknobs will need cleaning since they are a little dirty and tarnished. One of the glass knobs has a very slight knick on the surface. And the back interior center design is cloudy. There is also a few tiny spots on the knobs that looks like paint. Once cleaned I believe this would be a nice set of antique doorknobs. just my opinion of course) I don't edit photos. Here is a set of 5 heavy cast brass drawer pulls. They are all the same shape and size. But the top pull(first photo) is brighter than all the others, and the second pull is slightly brighter than the remaining 3. Each pull is 3- 5/8" across, 1 inch from top to bottom, and stands out 3/4" The screw holes are 3- 1/4" apart(center to center) The pulls have some nicks and scratches. As well as traces of old paint around the edges. Antique Oak Arched Entry Door W Yale Hardware Brass Knocker Hinges Quarter Sawn This door came from a recent estate that we bought. I found it in the loft of a barn. The best I came up with was it was taken out of the house when it was remodeled in the early 70's. and stored in the barn. The original house was over 100 years old, I don't think the door is that old. I will have about 20 more old doors from the same loft listed eventually. All I did with the door was clean it off with some Murphy's soap, nothing else. The lock is marked Yale on the jam side of the door. If your looking at this then you probably know more about it than I do. So if you have questions please ask. The door is not perfect. It's old and has some character, there are a few scratches, dents etc. that I am sure can be restored with no problem by someone ... morethat knows what they are doing. I did have someone that works with wood look at the door and he told me it was quarter sawn Oak.
