Beautiful Chinese Republic Period Yellow Ground Famille Rose Figural Wall Vase
This beautiful Yellow Ground Porcelain Chinese Wall Vase measures about 7-3/4" tall x 5.5" wide. And 3.25" deep. It is beautifully painted on the front a pretty girl under a tree. The reverse has hand written calligraphy enamel painted to the surface. The bottom is marked with what i believe to be an earlier Zhong Guo Porcelain mark dating somewhere to around 1950-60. While bearing the Made in China Mark. The Chinese is still written from right to left. The vase has a fair amount of crazing to it and many spots have been stained. The yellow ground also has two minute flea bites to the surface. One on a corner. The other on the front about a half inch below the figural painting.

The vase has a tapering ovoid body with two shaped reserves of rockwork and flowering plants in deeply carved. Black lacquer on a red intricately carved diagonal patterned background. Which plays tricks with the eye depending on which way you hold the vase as you are viewing it(see Photos) There is further carved black lacquer featured on the waisted neck and shoulder with a foliate-accented head band. Foliate lappets at the rim and on the base. This most impressive vase in two-color cinnabar lacquer on enameled brass is very old and other vases I have seen on the web do not have as intricate detail as this one does in the carved red laquer background. The Eight Friends of Zhushan were among the best Famille Rose master artists of the Republican period.They were members of the Yue Yuanhui. A society which members met on the full moon of every lunar month at Zhushan to interact and exchange ideas. Each of the artists specialised in a particular subjects and had their distinctive style. It is now generally accepted there were 10 artists who were at one point or another members of the society: Wang Qi- specialised in drawing of human figures. His earlier works was done more in the gong bi style, which is characterised by fine outline for the human figures. However, his style subsequently evolved into the more free and calligraphic style. Up for auction is this large Chinese vase that has been drilled to be a lamp. It has a Jiaqing mark on the bottom but I believe this piece is from the Republic Period. It is a large vase. Standing just over 13 inches in height. The opening is approximately 2 1/4 inches in diameter, the bottom is 4 7/8 inches in diameter and the weight is 4 pound 13.6 ounces. It is in excellent condition. With a surface chip to the large birds tail, a few small glaze skips which occurred during production and a tiny stress fracture to the bottom rim that also occurred during production(see closeup photos) It is a beautiful piece with lots of color. Lovely Antique Chinese famille verte butterfly vase pair large Republic period
Up for bids is a fantastic pair of Chinese Famille Verte butterfly vases from an old estate. They measure about 12 1/2" tall and are about 7 1/4" in diameter measured at the shoulder. They feature incredible hand painted designs overall and applied roses and vines. One of the roses on one of the vases has popped off as shown. Looks like it would be an easy repair. Chinese Literati Baluster Vase Republic Period
This stunning vase is 20 3/4" tall. With stand- 22" It has been drilled for a lamp over an underglaze blue mark. It was made in the 1940's or 50's. It is in the literati tradition- beautifully painted bird and flowers with Chinese writing all done by hand. It is done with powdered colors- all underglaze. Using powdered colors under glaze instead of enameled colors over the glaze was an experimental technique used by a few porcelain artists- including Bi Botao.

Perfect Antique Chinese Republic period enameled Porcelain vase c.1900 marked
Acquired at a very old estate this weekend along with several other Asian/Chinese antiques I am currently listing. With some European silver too. Antique Chinese porcelain of scholar and student in a landscape. Vase is in perfect condition with old pierced wood stand. No chips or cracks or repairs to either piece. Dates to approx. Republic Period. Marked in hand-painted characters and also"China" in enamel stamped on bottom of vase. Handmade and enameled with very thin potting. Light can be seen through translucent body of vase from inside. Measures: 7.5" not including stand. And almost 9" with stand. Stand appears to be at least vintage with some age and was sold to me with the vase, though it is a bit wider than the base of the vase, it displays nicely.
