EARLY CHINESE FLAMBE JUNYAO GLAZED NARCISSUS TRIPOD CEREMONIAL BOWL
For your consideration is this Early Chinese Flambe Junyao Glazed Narcissus Tripod Ceremonial Bowl. The bowl measures approximately 8 1/2" by 8 1/4" and 3 1/8" tall. In my opinion from researching this bowl it appears to be from the Song Dynasty period(960-1127) The Glaze is a beautiful Light blue and Aqua in color with brown/red/purple accents. You can see the beautiful carved design outlined on the three lingzhi shaped feet. The craftsmanship and artistry done on this piece is truly amazing. CONDITION: On the inside of this antique piece there is some age related crazing/lines only in the glaze. Also. If you look very closely at the whole bowl there is some minor age crazing in the glaze. There is ONE flake located right below the beautifully carved rim on the inside of the bowl. On the high points of the scalloped carved ... morerim, 3 of the them have a tiny bit of wear(no chips) Three of the high points on the scalloped carved rim occurred during the making of the piece, they were not perfectly formed and the glaze was applied. So even though they are not perfectly rounded at the point, they have glaze over them, indicating that it is original to the piece and not a chip or damage. As stated there is only one chip/flake on the bowl. There are two faint lines on the bottom of the piece, that may indicate that a few of the crazing lines could go deeper than only in the glaze. You can also see a few kilning imperfections near the feet as well. Overall, for the age of this piece it is sound with no restorations or major damage. The shipping price on this item does include insurance. PLEASE LOOK OVER ALL THE PICTURES AND EMAIL WITH ALL QUESTIONS PRIOR TO BIDDING OR BUYING. The enamel is applied freely over the vase which gives it the modern look that it has. The interior and foot base are of the same type of glaze. To make this type of vase. Glaze is allowed to run down the vase's exterior, while the vase is in the kiln and enamel puddles at the foot of the vase. The potter then must chip away the excess enamel from around the vase to release it from the stilts that hold it, giving it the"chipped" appearance on the bottom of the vase. I've had these lamps for years. About 3 years ago I moved residences. And since then I've had no where to display these lamps, and they've been sitting in my storeroom. These are the last two of this kind that I've seen, and that was years ago. If you are looking for a lamp made from an exceptional Chinese red glaze vase, then you should pay close attention to this listing and the other like it. This listing is for a lamp made from a Chinese Qing Dynasty Langyao Red Glaze vase. These are also called Red Flambe. And Hare's fur(for the fur like pattern in the glaze. The porcelain section is about 14 inches tall and 10 inches ... morewide( about 35.6 x 25.4 cm) The total height is about 19 1/4 inches(bottom of base to top of bulb socket) This vase was made into a lamp in the mid 20th Century- the base is wood. And looks really good. The vase base has chips around the edge- this in not damage. It is how all the authentic examples are made(they are snapped off out of the kiln once fired) Other than the drill hole in the base when this vase was made into a lamp. The vase is a great and impressive example that I am told would date from the 18th to earlier 19th century period. The vase has an incredible robins egg blue and red flambe glaze throughout. The vase also has carved dragon figures. Which you do not see often on flambe examples. The vase came from the estate with this solid bronze base that was most likely added to the vase some time in the 19th century. As you can see the vase has a break and old repair to the top rim that could be restored if one desired. For its rarity and impressive beauty I thought this vase should still be a desirable find and a great period study example with no other damage or repairs. The vase is also one of the largest size examples I have seen measuring 17 1/2 inches tall, by 11 1/2 inches wide, and 20 inches tall including the bronze base.
