Chinese Earthenware Pottery Vase Turquoise Glaze Qing Dynasty Figures Scholar
This is an interesting Chinese earthenware vase. The vase depicts clouds and four carved figures each holding an object. One figure is holding a scroll. One is holding a fan and the other two are carrying a long textured object with pointed ends. The vase is colored with a crazed glass like glaze. The glaze is primarily turquoise but there is also an eggplant purple, a deep yellow and a hint of green mostly found on the clouds. There is no marking on the base. I purchased this with two Han Dynasty pieces though I believe this piece to be early Qing Dynasty. Condition: The glaze has even crazing throughout with some wear on the raised white outline of the clouds and figures. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs. A beautiful Qing Dynasty vase of rare form. Exhibiting use of several varied decorative glaze-related elements, including celadon, blue-on-white, red oxide, and a polychrome flambe glaze, all incorporated into a motif featuring an allegorical scene of monkeys in a single panel of high-relief applique. Imagine the number of firings this vase must have undergone! Scholars mark rendered in blue-on-white censor as shown. Large- 11 3/4 inches(30 cm) in height- and made of heavy porcelain. I do not know the history of this piece so tried to find similar items on Ebay auctions. Could this be a Blanc De Chine? I am not sure. But looks similar to ones listed and already sold, down to the hole in bottom. The bottom also has an incised 1 on bottom. Up for auction is a beautiful White Handled Vase with a Pierced Design. There are 8 different(of what I believe to be(Chinese Scholars) going around the vase. I showed pictures of vase on side so you could study characters. This jar is in Mint Condition with no chips. Cracks or crazing. Does have shelf wear on bottom as can be seen in picture. Just over 10 Inches in Height, with a base of 3 1/2 Inches in diameter. Base has a hole in bottom as you can see in picture. Could be wired to be a lamp with the right hardware. Inside is a bit dusty and I will not try to clean.
