The narrative scene includes a dignitary seated at a table, servants, guards, trees, rocks, palms& flowers. The bottom is unmarked, but has the double blue circles. The vase is heavy& weighs approximately 8 lbs 10 oz. The vase measures approximately 18 1/4 inches tall. 7 inches wide. The vase is in good condition; no chips. Or repairs, but there is a hairline that measures approximately 7 inches along the side through the palm tree(see photos#11& 12) There is pitting& small black marks which are normal in the making. Antique Chinese Blue-Glazed Rouleau Vase ~ beautiful etched scenes ~19th Century
This is a wonderful Antique Chinese Rouleau Vase from the 19th Century. Probably 1860-1870. It has the classic cylindrical shape with a slender neck and the glaze is a vibrant powder blue tone. There are 2 rectangular reserves with etched scenes. One scene depicts Chinese Plum Blossoms and trees. The other is a landscape depicting tall mountains in the background, a pagoda and trees towering above a boat floating in the water. In the left foreground, a bird appears to be flying off above a lone figure. The center depicts trees and foliage. To the right is a garden structure. The condition of the piece is excellent with no chips or damage. There is a small spot on the side that occurred during the original firing(see photo 12) Minor scuffs to the base as expected from shelf movement. This piece was originally purchased at the turn of the century ... moreon a trip to Asia and then brought back to the States. The blue glaze is given a mottled effect by the technique of blowing the glaze onto the piece through a bamboo straw. This is sometimes referred to as a souffle' glaze since it has a light and airy appearance. The scenes are incised into the vase and then a pigment is rubbed into the etching. This vase measures approximately 10 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter. The"Rouleau" form was particularly popular during the Kangxi period. And again in the 19th century. Important Rare Fine Huge Chinese Blue White Scenic Baluster Vase 17-18C Fine 2014 Chinese Collection Please Click on Pictures to Enlarge them Up for auction is a very old Excellent authentic old extremely rare example of a Blue and White Scenic Kangxi Vase. This vase displays a lot of traditional Kangxi period scenes. This is a very highly decorative scenic vase. In an unusual baluster form. The center of the bulbous body has four sections with scenes, each separated with a border of woven downward facing arrow patterns. It is a very interesting if you closely inspect the vase. You will see that there are four scenes, but there are really two different scenes that are each mirrored. So each scene has a double(another identical scene) and each pair is done in a mirror fashion. Two of the mirrored sections on the vase are filled up with plants ... moreand flowers. along with a Bird, Dragonfly, Butterfly, and a Moth. The other two identical mirrored sections have a scene with two hunters carrying their weapons while riding on horses. It appears that they are hunting a deer who is grazing on the grass. It is possible that the two hunters are actually Soldiers. They are all among rocks, hills, mountains, and trees. Above and below the scenes are highly decorative Lingzhi and floral shaped patterns that wrap around the vase. The neck of the vase, is decorated with a scene that displays mountains, rocks, hills, pine trees, houses, water, geese, a man and a fisherman. One man is out in the field in front of the houses, and on the other side of the neck of the vase, there is a man standing on a cliff above the ocean, while fishing. Before him there are three geese flying in a synchronized V shape. The bottom foot of the vase has more floral patterns that wrap all the way around the vase. Over-all this vase is in good antique condition. There are rust spots and pitting natural from make and age. Which is a good sign of the vases authenticity of age. Of cylindrical form with tapered sides, flattened shoulder and flared rim, the vase decorated with central figure of an old sage carrying a peach, the figure dressed in a yellow jacket with green shou medallion and flanked by two attendant figures, one carrying a basket of flowers beside a crane, the other carrying a stick with a gourd and scrolls hanging from the end; the figures walking beneath a large flowering peach tree with one branch wrapping around the back of the vase and forming an arch above a flying bat. Finely executed in colorful enamels on a white ground, the top with crackle glaze along the edge/rim. Unmarked. Dimensions: ... more16.875" high x 7" diameter. Weight: 7 lbs. Condition: Overall. This has a Tobacco leaf pattern in Iron Red and blue& white enamel, the main ground is Blue and the opening has ruyi band in yellow and key fret pattern around collar as well. This has 2 large Dragons 1 in Iron Red and 1 in Cobalt Blue and Lotus Flowers and Blossoms thru out piece with meandering steming in beautiful colors. Again this is a tapering cylindrical form& galleried rim, and tall elongated body and waisted neck.
