This is found on very early Chinese bronze examples which had to do with the way the bronze was refined at the time, which after many hundreds of years forms small areas of malachite stone, known as malachiting to the patina. The Vase also has its original lid which is rarely still found with such pieces. Like no other I have seen. The Figure shows good and legitimate early age throughout. The Figure has very intricately carved details throughout including a superbly carved and detailed face. I was told the figure would conservatively date to the 18th century period, and that there is a good chance it could even be an earlier Ming Dynasty piece. The figure is very heavy, far heavier than any other figure like this I have handled which I am also told is an indication of an earlier made example weighting a substantial 7.3kgs, or right around 16 pounds by itself not including the wood fitted base. The Figure has a beautiful dark patina throughout and has not been over cleaned. The Figure is in very fine original condition with no missing pieces, repairs, or damage of any kind. The Figure is an amazing display piece measuring 5 3/4 inches square at the base, and stands 14 inches tall by itself, and 14 3/4 inches tall including the wood base. I have not handled anything quite like this piece. But from what I am ... moretold it would date to the later Song to earlier Ming Dynasty period. The way the footrim is done and its thickness is very similar to Song and early Ming examples I have handled, so I do believe it to also be an early example. The charger shows its age with wear and crazing throughout the glaze. However for its large size and early age the charger is overall in substantially good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The Charger is one of the largest size examples I have seen as well measuring 15 1/4 inches across and 3 1/8 inches deep. It would be well worth looking into the Charger and what its specific age and value would be. The Vase is a very interesting and I believe rarely seen piece. The Vase conservatively dates to the Ming Dynasty. If not possibly even a Yuan dynasty piece. The Vase has a very unique design with black Cizhou décor, on an apple green glaze. The Vase has a couple small chips to the top neck repaired in red lacquer that was an old and respectable method of repairing early examples like this. But overall for its very early age the vase is in substantially fine original condition with no other chips, cracks, or repairs. Antique Rare Chinese Ming Blue and White Jar Figures Marked Vase
Up for sale is a very rare antique Chinese late Ming dynasty to transitional period porcelain jar. The jar is decorated with blue and white scene with various Chinese figures. The bottom has a leaf mark and the jar is of a fairly large size at almost 10in tall. Condition: General age related wear to surface. Old line and firing flaw on the bottom near the leaf mark. Guaranteed to be original and as described- Wonderful scarce and rare antique Chinese late Ming Dynasty bronze two handled silver on bronze flower vase. The vase is of significant importance as silver was in limited amounts and of very high merit during the Ming Dynasty. This is a fine and elegant bronze vase with the partial remains of a old collection or museum label affixed to the base. The vase was thinly cast as bronze was also highly treasured during this time as well. The silver overlay is on the eyes of the elephant form handles and below the eyes. On the high relief part of the decoration on the front main design there is also silver which is worn in places. On the base there also looks like there is some remnants of gold gilding under the thick dark patina. Up for auction is a pair of Very Rare 17thc Chinese Ming Dynasty Imperial Palace Wall Tiles. The Wall tiles are fine and fully guaranteed authentic ... more17th century Ming dynasty period examples. I was told by the estate the wall tiles were removed from an imperial palace. As the back estate labels also indicate. The tiles have vibrant turquoise, aubergine, and yellow glazed colors. The tiles have highly embossed Buddha figures. The tiles have been mounted in wood frames that display the tiles very nicely. The one tile is cracked to the center potion but still displays very nicely as it is. The tiles are otherwise in fine condition for their early age with no other cracks, and both tiles have no repairs throughout. The tiles display beautifully the tiles themselves measuring 10 1/2 inches tall, by 8 1/2 inches wide. As you can see I found a near identical example that Sotheby’ s is offering in their upcoming New York sale of Important Chinese ceramics. The tile they are offering is in very ruff condition with many losses to the glaze and large chips throughout compared to the pair I am offering here. The tiles will be sold to the highest bidder with absolutely no reserves. The Bell is an interesting example and ... moreI am told very few celadon glazed bells like this were produced. The bell has a beautiful and rich longquan celadon glaze throughout. The bell has a finely detailed double-headed qilin dragon top handle. And also nicely carved designs to the sides. The bell could use a light cleaning and shows some light wear throughout the glaze. But overall for its early age the bell is in very fine original condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The bell displays beautifully measuring 3 3/8 inches wide, by 4 1/4 inches tall. I have only ever seen one similar example like this in a book in over 20 years of searching for such treasures I have not seen another unique example like this in person. I was told by the estate they had an appraiser at Sotheby’ s look at the bell around 10 years ago which put a conservative auction estimate of 4-6000 on the bell at the time. The figure is finely carved throughout with fine details to both the hands and face. The figure shows its age with gilding loss throughout as commonly found on examples of this early age. The figure came from the estate displayed on this wood stand that was most likely made for the figure in the 19th century. The mouse figure was documented in the collection as being a Song dynasty example but to be safe for the auction I am selling it as a Song to Ming dynasty piece. The mouse figure is carved of a beautiful hu of rare natural yellow jade. The jade has a beautiful softness to the carving from being handled for many decades. The mouse is simply carved throughout which is consistent with Song dynasty examples. The mouse also has a hole through the center that is square carved instead of round. Up for auction is a set of rare early Chinese Peking glass sword fittings. I do not know a great deal about the sword fittings and I have not seen another set like this. I am told the sword fittings are early burial pieces that would date from the Ming to very early Qing dynasty period. They could in fact even be earlier than this I have seen similar examples in books from the Warring States to Han Dynasty periods. The pieces are made of a vibrant emerald green glass. The pieces are superbly detailed. The pieces show wear and evidence of being buried for a very long time. The pieces came from the estate in this old silk case that has good age it to as well. The censer shows its early age with some chips and a crack to the body that could be restored if one desired. But overall for its age and rarity I believe this censer should still be a very desirable find and I am told very few like this are known to still exist today. The censer is a great display piece measuring 5 3/8 inches long. By 3 3/4 inches wide, and stands 6 1/4 inches tall. I was able to find one similar example that sold years ago. The Vase has an unusual and rarely found Anhua hidden decor design. As you can see when the vase is lite up inside it reveals amazing imperial five-claw dragons among clouds all around. The vase is a good and legitimate early example. The Vase has a Jiajing(1522-66) six-character mark to the base within double circle and is quite convincing that is could in fact be of the mark and period. But I am told this vase could also date from the Kangxi to Qianlong reign so I will let you ultimately decide its exact age for yourself and bid accordingly. The vase is a fine and very interesting example done is a beautiful ding white glaze. This vase has very good provenance being purchased from Ralph Chait Galleries in New York around 60 years ago. Ralph Chait has been dealing in high-end Asian arts for upwards of 100 years and this gallery is considered one of the finest and most well respected galleries in the world. So you could not ask for better provenance. Ralph Chait dated this vase on the base label as being a Ming Dynasty example. In my opinion this dating is quite conservative and I believe there is a chance this vase could even date to the late Song to Yuan dynasty. The vase shows its age with some crazing to the glaze that could possibly be cleaned if one desired. Overall for its early age this vase is in very fine original condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. This vase has also been closely inspected under UV light, which reveals no damage or restorations of any kind throughout. This vase is a fine and fully guaranteed authentic Ming dynasty period example. This vase has very strong provenance along with other examples also from this collection. The vase was accessioned(sold) by the Carnegie Museum of Fine Arts in Pittsburg to raise money for new construction projects. This vase was acquired by the museum in the year 1956 from the Important George H Taber Asian arts collection. This vase was documented by George Taber and the Museum as being a late Ming dynasty example. The vase has George Taber’ s original collection inventory numbers in black. The censer also has its original bronze censer stand. Which is very rarely still found with the censer. The censer and stand have a rich old patina and remnants of gold gilding throughout. The censer is superbly detailed with an amazing and bold design including imperial five claw dragons and other mythical creatures among clouds and waves. This censer is in fine original condition with no damage or repairs. The censer is a beautiful display piece measuring 5 3/8 inches wide, by 3 1/2 inches deep. The censer stands 5 3/4 inches tall by itself and 7 inches tall including its stand. I was able to find a few examples that have sold at higher end auctions and in books. I believe this Guanyin figure would have originally had a boy and girl figure standing on each side that are missing. However I believe for its rarity this figure should still be a desirable find and if nothing else is a very good early study example. The figure is a small size example measuring 4 1/4 inches tall, by 3 inches wide, and 1 1/8 inches deep. I have seen a few examples like this in books but not one offered online so I believe this figure is something that rarely comes up for auction. Antique Chinese Lotus Celadon Green Crackle Vase/Bowl Porcelain Ming? Song? RARE
Up for auction is a very old Chinese Celadon Lotus design vase/low bowl. Weighs almost four pounds. The condition is excellent but it is dirty. So winning bidder will have the duty of cleaning if he/she chooses to do so. The glaze has some crackling(see pics. This vase/low bowl has a beautiful incised lotus design and is possibly of the Ming or Song era but i'm not totally sure. I believe this is a very rare piece of heavy Chinese porcelain.
