It measures 13" in height and 8" approximately in diameter at the shoulder 6" at the base and 4" at the opening without the lid. This is a really HEAVY and substantial vase. This type of glaze typically dates to the late 18th to early 19th century but I would safely date this to the 19th century. There is an old staple repair to the lid(actually it's amazing it has it's original lid! there are two old staples. Otherwise it is in really good condition. The decoration is just wonderful and really detailed. Featuring a gold lacquer design of pheasants and flowers atop a stunning, Ge type crackled eladon glaze. These exquisite antique vases come fresh from an upstate New York collection. They date to the mid 19th Century era(Qing Dynasty, circa 1840-60s) and comes from a non-smoking household. Like all our auctions, the vases are being offered here with a low opening bid and no reserve price. These vases are very sturdily potted. And glazed a deep grey-green celedon hue. Presenting two exceptionally well-preserved late Qing dynasty or early Republic-era Chinese porcelain vases or jars of‘Phoenix-Tail’ or‘Yen-Yen’ form. Electrified as lamps and being mirror-image mates, offered together for auction this week. Sides decorated in biscuit-painted famille verte enamels in the late 19th century Kangxi-revival style and likely of the post-1850 period. Each vase has an overall design of flowers and butterflies in a jade green enamels on a crackled glaze against an oatmeal background. Vignettes depict exotic birds and flowers. These are lamps of impressive design. Both vases measure apprx 12" H x 4" W. porcelain part only) From the base to the top of the electrical measures approx. 22" Around the circumference of the vases are featured paintings of finely detailed mythical landscapes and still lifes ... moreof rock-work. About the base a diaper of parti-colored pickets in the palette’s complexion. My aunt had these vases made into lamps in the 1940's or 50's. They have their original metal bases from that time. These lamps are in fine working condition. Estimated date of manufacture for the vase. Late 19th or early 20th century, circa the Guangxu Reign to nascent Republic years. On removing the vase from the base and cap to check the condition of the piece I noted that they are both marked"China" in red on the bottom. The underside of the footrim of the base has sand/kiln grit typical for this era of Chinese pottery and possibly indicitive of the kiln region in Southern China.
