The size varied, but many are about 10" tall and 10" in diameter. For your consideration is this wonderful antique primitive called a firkin or sugar bucket. This does not appear to have been painted. It retains a very nice patina. The issues noticed are scuffs. Scratches, rubs, nicks and chips from use and a gouge on each side as if it were forced into a rack. The interior has water stains. The lid has water stains and scratches, and the band on the lid is missing a strip that is approx. 7" long and a small 2 1/2" strip at the top that secured a nail. There is a small piece of wood on the handle that has separated but it has been that way for a long time, and the patina on it is not new. There are also a couple of spots of paint on the bucket. Primitive Old Wood Sugar Maple Firkin Bucket Gathering Pail Box Old Paint
Up for bids is an old wood maple sugar bucket pail gathering bucket with old thick mustard color paint. It has a make do old wire hanger on the one side near the top rim for hanging. It is constructed with two 3/4" wide metal bands holding eleven slats of wood together. All the slats of wood are notched together. It is in good used condition but looks like someone may have stenciled it at one time on the one side as I have tried to picture. The bottom of the bucket has old red and white paint as seen in the picture.On the sides of the bucket ther are small metal hooks which makes me think it may have had a metal handle at one time.The bucket measures 9 1/2" tall. Beautiful ORIGINAL FINISH antique firkin slat bucket with original lid and bentwood handle. This bucket shines inside and out! I'm not sure of the type of wood. The knob has some dings. Which I've shown in the pix. The bucket measures 10" T x 9.5" W at the top(10" with the lid on)tapering out to 10.5" across the bottom. This is a no-reserve auction for an original 1800's early antique wooden firkin sugar bucket with bentwood handle and lid. The base of the bucket is 10" Stands 9.5" high. There age appropriate signs of wear from use. The bucket is still solid and tight. There are three shaker style finger strap bands around the bucket and one around the lid. They are secured with the original nails. The bucket. Handle, and lid all have the natural original wood finish. Notice an old split in the top of the lid that has been glued on the inside. 1 copper/brass nail is missing from the top strap. Early Antique Wood Firkin Sugar Bucket with Original Slat Wood Lid
For your consideration is a beautiful. Early. Antique Wood Firkin/Sugar Bucket that is 11 inches tall(handle adds an additional 4-7/8" to height) top is 11-3/4" in diameter and the base is 12-1/2" in diameter. Due to age and use this bucket has some issues. Some time ago someone repaired the bottom of the bucket with some kind of sealant or glue(picture 7) There is also some of the sealant or glue on the inside of the bucket(picture 12) A piece of the wood on the bottom band at the base of the bucket broke off and there is a split which also looks like it was repaired. The slat wood top has the mushroom pegs and the handle rubs a little when you raise if up so there is surface wear on the handle from this. The lid also has some wood that has broken off the bottom edge, some age splits, few missing nails, and a chip in the wood. ... moreon top The lid is made from two pieces of wood with the slats nailed across the top. Bucket has neat large bright blue label on one of it's sides that states"High Grade Confectioner's Sugar" Maker's name part of the label is worn off. Bucket is a nice large size measuring 1 foot tall and at the barrel's widest part from side to side measures 15 inches. The bottom and smallest part of the barrel's width measures 10 inches across. It is the ideal height to use as a side table and it has the added plus of convenient storage. Vintage Shaker Sugar Bucket/ Firkin ~ Wood Sugar Pail with Lid
You are bidding on a vintage Shaker firkin. It appears to have its original lid and bent wood handle. Handle pivots on two large button pegs. The lid is flat and there is no finial. The band encircling the top is 1 1/8 inches tall. The underside of the handle appears to show ware. The edges of the handle have been thinned through years of use. There are no manufacturing marks on it. It is nailed not stapled. It stands 9 ¾ inches lidded. It is 10 inches across its base and it is 9 inches across its top when the lid is removed. 14 inches tall when handle is in the upright position. There are two bands holding it together. There is some chipping on the bands tails. The bottom has a split as a result of shrinkage. Piece appears never to have been painted. Color is rich. Early Primitive Wood Firkin Sugar Bucket Folk Art Painted
Up for bid is an early. Wood, Firkin/Sugar Bucket with a folk art painted design and beautiful patina. The bucket measures 11-1/2" tall(handle adds an additional 4-1/2" to the height) base is 10-1/4" in diameter and top is 9-1/4" in diameter(tall and narrow) Due to age and use there is some surface wear such as dings, scratches, age splits, chips. The handle has a small spot that has started to crack but does not go all the way through(picture5) Piece of wood is missing on one side where the mushroom handle is attached(pictures 4, 7& 8) which does not compromise the handle. The handle is very strong and sturdy. Bucket has a nice folk art painted design(early but not original) and is made with round head nails. Beautiful patina and wonderful size(tall and narrower) bucket. No lid. All items are offered and sold in“AS ... moreIS” condition.
